    Brake carnage!!

if you can find them, they make rebuild kits for most calipers. And they're dirt simple to rebuild. 2 pistons, 2 dust boots, 2 seals (on those)-per caliper. Maybe $30 worth of parts to do both sides-including the hardware kit.

Do they really charge that much?

Hmm, well kinda. Depends on the shop of course. "most" dealer techs work on commission, meaning they have a minimum (in my case 15 hours) to bill, but no maximum. So really the slow tech (and I'm not saying he or she is slow mentally, there are weeks where parts ordering gets messed up, not...

Do they really charge that much?

exactly what I do. However, not everyone has the ability, time, place, or tools to do that stuff. There are independent "shops" -of which the vast majority are not certified, maybe not factory trained, may lack some special tooling, etc. I've been on both sides of it--and am, as I speak...

Should I sharpen my brush hog blades?

they can be sharpened-and they do cut better, however sharpening shredder blades is an excercise of patience. Takes a while if they're "that" dull.

Do they really charge that much?

$150/hr is about where most shops are here (mid south, usa) and keeps going up. cost of doing business keeps going up for tons of reasons (mandates, laws, rules, restrictions, mfg direction, etc)-NOTHING the shop can do about it, most don't turn but maybe 10% profit after all the bills are...

    Cheater, cheater.........

TIG is more an art than a task, in my opinion. I have one, and I SUCK at it, no matter how much I do it, never seem to get any better with it. Really wish I could afford a school specifically for tig welding but it'd be for hobby welding, nothing for the job so that money would not be well...

Why is perception often much different than the truth?

that is correct, per a part time FBI agent that I work with at my full-time job.

    L3200 RAT-TAT-TAT noise, starts intermittently

wiggle the hst pedal from neutral to forward, then back to reverse (SLOWLY) while holding the key. Does it start somewhere in between? If yes, the HST neutral switch is likely failing.

    2010 RTV 500 repairs

yep low fuel pressure can absolutely cause misfires. I'm dealing with a Polaris 850 at the moment (at home) which has a misfire, to "me" it's an obvious ignition misfire-but it has 42 psi fuel pressure. Should be 60. New fuel pump comes in today; and I'm thinking it'll solve the issue...

belt tension gauge for mower deck?

someone makes kubota belts too. That doesn't mean that Gates you buy at Napa and the belt that you buy at a woods dealer is the same belt, though ;) similarly yamaha. I had to do a 3 week GRUELING class on....engine oil. Yamalube is made by someone else. Sure is. Thing is, though, the...

    Piston rod

you can pull the rod down far enough to fiddle around to get the clip out, but you can't slide the pin out-ain't enough room for it to slide far enough. Yes L2350. I tried. gotta pull the head. if it's knocking, I'm guessing there's more wrong than just a rod. Prepare yourself to pull the...

belt tension gauge for mower deck?

yup I agree with hokie here. people often think that a belt is a belt and that's not always the case. Sure some chincanese company can make a belt the same vee, same width, same length and just sell it for $20 vs the OEM $100 but we have to ask ourselves, why are they cheaper? One, they're...

    Engine swap on L2501

any engine could be swapped onto it how much time/money/effort it takes is to be seen be advised your are asking about swapping a common rail engine onto a tractor that originally had mechanical injection. To make the common rail engine work, you're gonna have to do a lot of wiring and ecu...

    T2290 Drive Belt Replacement

they're not fun to put a belt on. I've done a few of them when I did dealer work. Certainly not impossible, but I didn't like doing them. Engineers don't care if people can fix them or not. Their job is to make it as inexpensive as possible, as durable as possible given the amount of money...

    Repairing one cylinder?

measure how far down the cylinder all 3 pistons are, when they are at TDC. Obviously one at a time, and record them. Remember, these things are precision machinery so a tape measure isn't accurate enough. A dial or digital caliper can work. Or better yet a depth micrometer. There is a...

    Kubota Safety Switches Help?

more than likely a failing hst switch. Or perhaps just out of adjustment. Next time it don't start, wiggle the forward-reverse pedal back and forth slowly while holding the key to start, and clutch held down. Those were kind of a known issue for a bunch of L3200/L3800 tractors.

    Thought for today

ya aint wrong about coaches and athletics. Athletic director here makes more $$$ than the principal of the high school! The last principal is my neighbor-she used to live in the house that I live in, and we converse quite often about this stuff. She works at the state capital now in the...

Shuddering on left side of Z724 zero turn

I have done dealer work for decades, mostly kubota but I'm done with them as of 2020 what I learned is that dealers don't replace equipment, they fix them. UNLESS Kubota agrees to replace it, which is extremely rare. I have heard of it, but out of tens of thousands of units come through the...
