I found this bush hog on Craigslist in my area and went to inquire about it. To me its in rough shape and he is asking for a trade so I asked him what he wanted for it, told me to make an offer and I said 100 bucks cash since your looking to trade and you clearly state you took it in on trade. Asshole wanted to play games and call me a cheap ass for offering 100 bucks. Thats why I first asked the guy what he wanted in cash. Was trying to pull the wool over my eyes when he said 400 cash then droped it to 350 and then lastly tells me he would have sold it for 200 but since I'm a cheap ass he wont sell it to me.

Give me your thoughts.

That looks exactly like the HOWSE I just sold......mine was in a little better shape - asked $250 - sold for $220. I had a guy do the same thing to me a while back on CL, wanted to sell a bunch of famous baseball player prints, asked him how much, blah blah.....then when I said $50, he blasted my ars , said they were worth $500.....way I see it, the SELLER sets the price, the buyer has the right to refuse or cough up the bucks......
when I find something I want, cash talked and BS walks....

Well I'm looking at it reasonably for what it is and what I see. The deck is beat all to hell and chances are the blade probably hits on the inside so it needs to be straightened out. Also the whole on top of the deck looks like a perfectly cut access hole thats missing a cover plate so something would need to be made to cover the hole up.

Am I out of my mind offering 100 bucks for what I see infront of me given the condition its in. Hell the dude selling it obviously has no clue what hes selling either.

Tell him you think he is absolutely right, and that you are changing your offer to $90. :)

fire it up first!!! Cut something with it. See if it works first.

Then, offer him $90 last offer and walk away giving him a phone or e-mail.

I have bought and sold enough over the years......cars, trucks, tractors.....whatever.

When someone dicks me around.....I literally turn and walk away.

I have driven 800+ round trip miles to look at a Jeep that I did not want the owner thought surely I'd buy since I drove so far.....should have seen the look on his face when I walked away from it.

This mower isn't worth the bandwidth of this thread........walk.

Atleast I'm not loosing my mind and others agree with me. I thought 100 bucks was a fair offer, hell its not worth that much is scrap metal really. But I'd take it and play with it and see if I can straighten it out.

Not really sure if my B6100 could safely spin a 5 footer. I've powered a 4 footer behind it several times with no problems.

I HATE games. State your price, or be reasonable if you ask me to make an offer. What did he expect? Everybody wants a good deal- why would you offer him the moon for his beat up piece of junk? At that point, I wouldn't take it if he gave it to me- I'd walk away, and be glad that I had no further connection to him. I believe in principle, and I would rather not turn a dollar with someone who has no respect for me.

I had seen one worse then that on Craigslist it looks like it must come from some sorta dealer because I keep seeing the same attatchments pop up but they don't leave a number for some reason. But where this hog has a huge dent in the side the one I see for sale thats really not safe to sell has a chunk of metal missing and they are asking like 234 bucks for it.

Somone has flipped their lid thinking they are going to sell a hog with half its side missing for 234 bucks.

I dont get Craiglist, seems like its a bunch of dipshit morons that wheel and deal on there.

Yeah tell me about it... I cant seem to sell anything I own on Craigslist without giving it away. Also listing my business on there which seems like the worst possible idea too, people seem to think I do free work and not yard work.

I would offer him a 1 min head start. :D

Never want something more than the person selling it. You will get screwed every time. Always be willing to walk if you can't get something for the price you think is reasonable or at least real close to it.

That's kind of a funny statement, you can't sell anything of yours without giving it away but you offered a low ball price. Haha

The seller should at least put a number out there and shouldn't be offended when he didn't. Why would he think you would start high?

I sold a car a long time ago, one of the guys that looked at it acted offended with what I wanted for it, and it wasn't a surprise, it was on the windshield. He thought, he was going to intimidate me into selling it for nothing. He was even more irate when I shot him a counter offer, which was the least I was willing to take. He proceed to insult me, telling me I was dumb and didn't know what I was doing and that I would never sell it. I told the guy to take a hike and that I would let it rot before I would take any of his money. It sold a week later and I got what I wanted out of it.

Do you get offended when people shoot low ball offers for your stuff?

There are lowball offers and then there are lowball offers. I listed a Honda for $3800 OBO on craigslist a while back that was in good shape, got 32mpg and needed very little. After the fourth call offering less than $1k I took the ad down. I ended up selling it on autotrader for $3500. I wish I never would have sold that car but oh well.

I agree with the above statement there is low ball then there is low low ball. I know equipment and what its worth. I do a ton of research and home work before I decide on price. Naturally with anything you want top dollar when you sell, so I get a price a little high then allow for wiggle room and some haggling so the buyer feels like they are getting a deal and have won.

My attempts at selling my tractor have been as a package deal for the tractor and 4 attachments to go along with it, and in my ads I clearly state I am not looking to split it all up. Buy it all or buy nothing.

You would think to sweeten the deal I offer free delivery with in X amount of miles and I'll be more then happy to go over everything in its entirety so you feel comfortable with the purchase if you are new to tractors. Even offered to haul it out to a buyers house so they can demo the tractor there and put it threw its paces on chores they plan to do with it.

This bush hog I was mentioning in this post has resurfaced on Craigslist, and I was off this dude wants 300 bucks and its a death trap!
