Tractor died while dumping loader bucket

I have a retired guy I help out with things, he deserves some help as he has had it rough lately. He has a B2630HSD . 50031
It died while dumping the front loader bucket onto a log pile. It will not crank now. I swung by and am going back as I was not prepared to check wiring at that point. The key turns on the dash but it will not crank. I jumped the starter with the key on and it is a crank no start. Other than the seat and safety switches which I am checking when I go back over to his place, what is a usual place to look if any?. I am looking for a wiring diagram also. Is there a source for them on line?

Just a wild a$$ guess.

As you say, safety switches, PTO bumped to engaged, etc.

It cranks with a jump but no start, check the fuel filters/fuel flow. It been cold enough here in the NE that maybe the diesel has gelled or has water in it that froze.

Just spitballing here but if it just quit running in the middle of a dump, that sounds like a fuel issue to me. Check the usual suspects for fuel issues. Check for clogged filter, low or no fuel, fuel pump, etc. Maybe crack one of the injector lines and see if fuel is getting to them. Also, if fuel is getting there, maybe the glow plugs are the fault. Check everything fuel related first because if it was running and just quit, that does not sound like a wiring issue.

Pull it into a heated garage. If after a few hours it does start, the it’s not the fuel gelling up.

You mean if it “does NOT start” in that statement??

I would check fuel for sure. Ask him how it died, slow like ran out of fuel or fast like key was turned to off position. If slow it may be out of fuel or the fuel has gelled in the cold (may have fuel from the summer time?). If fast, I would be very suspicious of the fuel shutdown solenoid on the injection pump and/or safety switches being bad.

If was leaning forward and the safety switch tripped and he sat back and bumped the PTO lever in to run, then it aint going to start,,,,,,,,,, not that I would know anything about something like that

If it’s not fuel it may be the safety switches. You can definitely bump the PTO switch or bend the bar below it pretty easily, I’ve done that twice now just from shifting around on the tractor. If it is the fuel gelling you could trying using the white powerservice bottle or the powerservice with 911 on it. I think that one is grey? Hopefully it’s just the gelling or safety switches.

I read his original post differently. He said that it died while operating it. Then he tried to crank it with the key and it would not crank. That would indicate a safety switch. However; he said he jumped it to the starter with the key on and it cranked but would not start. That indicates no problem with the starting circuit but still could be a safety switch as well as a fuel issue. We for sure need more background on the issue but is it always beneficial to start with the easiest things first. If it was running and just quit all of a sudden, it is more likely to be a fuel issue than an electrical one, except for the safety switches of course.

When you jump the starter the safety electronics would still control the stop solenoid. So it would not start.
