Keep track of YOUR time, all of it, @$100 per hour. That's $30 LESS than local dealer charges.
YOUR time started when you rescued the machine, powered washed it THEN started turning wrenches.
I'm thinking you have to pull the engine out to work on it ?

It would be less expensive to sell that one as salvage and buy another machine than to fix it. If he has insurance on his home, possibly his home owners insurance will cover the loss. If not, then determine the value before it went into the water, and have him pay you that amount and he can pay to fix it. If it were a car all the water would have had to do was to cover the floor on the inside of the car and the insurance company would call it a total loss. Water damage can be very expensive to repair. Had he not attempted to start it, the engine could have been saved with a few hours of work cleaning out the water and silt. Now it is going to be a complete tear down and a lot of parts needing to be replaced that could have been saved. That is why if you loan out your equipment, you go along with it and are the operator, so it doesn't go in the water, assuming that you are an experienced operator.

Sorry to hear that's how your kindness was repayed. I have a neighbor who consistently asks to borrow my excavator. I feel uncomfortable saying no as I like to be helpful but your story confirms my concerns. I do offer to operate it for him when I have the time. Good luck sir.

So sorry to hear. Hope it works out okay for you.

I'm not much help. Over years here on OTT have gotten an appreciation for how complicated the skid steers and mini excavators are.

Why are you pulling the injectors???? You do realize they are beneath the rocker cover. They must be kept in the most clean environment possible as one speck of debris will render an injector useless.
At $900.00 + each they should not be messed with.

If it is hydro-locked from sucking in water, the damage is done to the bottom end requiring engine removal.

I have a neighbor who has several times offered his CAT mini-ex.
I always refuse!
