So on my farm I use an irrigation reel a fair bit, it's efficient and easy to move. Biggest problem is most of the farm is on a high hill and the water source is down at the bottom. No trouble to push it up there but it's really hard to get that 100-125PSI I want for the gun on the reel.
So a few years ago a guy was selling some stuff and my dad got some of it, just some random irrigation stuff and what turned out to be a low volume high pressure pump.
So all last year I used regular sized tractors to run this as a booster pump just before the irrigation reel. Worked fantastic and saved alot of fuel not having to run at such a high RPM to get pressure up here. I just need enough pressure to get water up here and then the high pressure pump pushes the 10 PSI to 125 easily.
So anyways just on a whim I decided to see if the old ford 8N could run this little booster pump as it's not high volume. To my surprise it can, only a very small tractor so before the guns up to pressure it hates it for a few seconds but then runs it quite nice. It would never run that pump anywhere near full capacity and may not even be able to run this gun at a large nozzel like late summer.... but for atleast part of the year I have a very efficient way to run my booster pump.
Half throttle is about whare it peaks out at which is just fine. Dosen't get hot, no issues just putts along no problem.
Pretty impressed with this little old tractor
