Richard Farnsworth
I was driving thru Roswell, NM and stopped in at a Kubota dealer to ask a few questions and noticed an autographed photo of him on the desk of the dealership owner.
When I asked about it…the owner told me that Farnsworth had purchased a Kubota from him and was in nearby Lincoln, NM at that time, and had given him the portrait.
I congratulated him on the portrait and only then learned that Mr. Farnsworth had discovered he had advanced prostate cancer. His wife had died a few years earlier, So he called his two sons to come visit. They had a few days together and the sons then returned to their homes.
Mr. Farnsworth then shot himself.
He was really appreciated by me first time when he payed Bill Miner in “The Grey Fox”.
He also played John C. Coble in who had hired Steve McQueens character “Tom Horn”.
His early career…he was a real cowboy…and first performed as a stunt man in westerns,…. including stand-in stunts for John Wayne.
I consider him one of the best. God Speed.
