I just received new flat face couplers that I will be connecting to my grapple. They have NPT threads so I am trying to identify what sealant to use. I am new to hydraulics and trying to educate myself. I have read not to use tape as you could end up with pieces getting into the system.

Is there a consensus on a recommended sealant to use for NPT threads or is this just like asking what the best greases is?

Kubota uses tape. If that scares you lots of people think Loctite 545 is safe and easy.

We have a Permatex brand at the local Napa or auto parts that seems to work just fine. Sometimes I'll use both tape and sealant if it's a hard to reach fitting.
