Hi guys. Looking to possibly buy this tractor. The guy can't tell me what it is. He says it has two cylinders. I'm thinking it might be an L185? Does not run. Looks like I may be able to get it under $800. Sorry, difficulty loading pic. It's two wheel drive with 1600 hours. Has been sitting for a few years.

You could be in for a lot of work for what you get.

It looks fairly similar to my L185 but not exactly the same. see the picture below. It could also be the grey market version (L1501? I think). In my picture you can see a nameplate on the side of the transmission. This has the model number and the serial number on it if you can read it. Mine is in (mostly?) all English. I think I can see the same nameplate in your picture right in front of the clutch pedal.

There's a whole lot of "could be this or could be that's" Like Russell said see if you can get the serial number off the tractor. It could be worth 800 and a simple fix then again it could be one helluva nasty nightmare.

What are your intentions with a tractor?

Thanks for all the input everyone. I would like to restore it if the price is right. (I'm a mechanic by trade) I offered $550. It's in Southern New York. I would like to use it for plowing snow and tilling the garden as well as running a pto generator.

Right now its all in how much money you want to dump into it. I'm guesstimating on the high side about 800 bucks for ag tires so you can plow snow and till the garden.

A pto generator has been a hot topick on here in the past, and the end result is nobody really ends up getting one because of racking up extra hours on the motor. And that the tractor is NEVER close to the house when the power goes out in the middle of the night.

How close is it to you? Why not go and look at it? Or, if you are serious, tell him that you need some specific photos. 1600 hours isn't bad, but anytime someone parks a tractor for a couple of years, you have to wonder why. A tractor that runs is usually used, instead of sitting.

Not necessarily, the L1500 that I was using belonged to my boss. It sat in our warehouse for about 8 years not being used. The reason, he hired someone to cut his grass. I used it for about a year or so and now it is back to sitting again. Not a thing wrong with it worth mentioning.

I wasn't speaking in absolutes, but as a generalization. In my experience, people either use what they have, sell it if they don't use it, or park it when something is wrong.

I just dont understand the mind set of people who just park things like cars truks and tractors and let sit and go to junk. Ok so maybe its broken and you cant afford to fix it but sell it for a price and maybe someone who could really use something can buy it for cheap and fix it up.

It looks to be older than an L185. There is no radiator flap on the hood. How many cylinders and how many lugs on the front wheel. If it is a L series I would venture a guess of an L175 or L225 if it is indeed a U.S. Import Kubota. Also, Kubota does not carry all of the parts anymore if you are looking at a full restore.
