Hello all - When I bought my tractor, the dealer initially speced out a Gearmore SLE 160 as part of the package. Besides the fact it was over twice the cost as others on the market, the minimum horsepower required was 28, and I am assuming this number is at the PTO (mine is 19.5). Dealer told me not to worry as long as I wasn't trying to mow down a jungle.

As it turns out, they could not source that particular mower prior to delivery, and I'm looking for another. I am having trouble finding one that looks like a good match HP-wise. It is fairly important to me that the mower be 60" wide, as that slightly exceeds my rear track, and I have quite a bit of fencing and other obstacles.

I'm looking for some real world experience here. Have any of you used a flail on your 25-ish HP compact? Just how important is the minimum HP rating? Our land is all grass, so I'm not mulching anything large. It does stay wet until about mid-spring, and some of it is on a hill.

Thanks!

I have a woodmaxx 60 inch for my LX2610su. You will be fine running a 60 inch Flail on your tractor. I have the duck foot blades and it will go through wet grass a foot tall and it doesn't really sound like the engine is even working. I don't typically mow very fast, range lever is in medium with light hst pedal application. My biggest regret is not getting the 78 inch for mine. If you were closer I'd sell you mine so I could go bigger. Here is a picture of my setup

Thank you. This was exactly what I was hoping to hear.

I also use a Woodmaxx 62”, but with the Y blades, behind my B2650. No trouble at all. If I’m mowing heavier things or tall, thick grass, I’ll drop into Low range and run nearby top speed. With shorter grass or more basic brushy mowing, it’s in Medium range fer sure.

What is your typical mowing? I’d go hammer blades if mostly heavier brush, and Y blades for heavy grass and brush/branches up to a couple inches. I’ve been surprised at what mine will chew through, but its specialty is definitely heavy grass and blackberries.

You’re in CA. I’ve got a friend that just bought the same mower as me for his LX2610 after seeing mine in action.
He’s since changed his plans and may not be developing the property that he was going to use it on.

I’d be happy to see if he’s interested in selling. We’re in western Oregon, so shopping wouldn’t be too horrible.

Thanks! It's mostly stalky grass on a moderate grade with young blackberry here or there that I'd love to run over as well. Sounds like Y?

If your friend is willing to sell, I'd love to know what they are asking. I don't get up there as much as I used to, but if the price is somewhere between the cheapo flail our Branson/TYM dealer has, and the pricey Gearmore our Kubota dealer has, I may even be willing to take a road trip!

Happened to run into my buddy last night. He’s not currently using it, but prefers to keep it in case he wants it in the future…

Check Woodmaxx’s site. Looks like $2,800 for a 62” and $250 for freight. In stock and ready to ship.

I’ve also got a coworker that bought a Betsco flail for his L2501. He’s replaced about every bolt on it so far. Can’t say I’d be running out to buy one, even though they are distributed from a joint about 30 minutes from my place.

For $3K, I’d be on that WoodMaxx…

That's a great deal. Kubota dealer wanted $5300 for the Gearmore. Looks liek teh direction I'll go once I recover from the tractor purchase itself. Cutting season is coming to a close out here in the next month or two, so I'll likely wait until winter.
