I used to make $60/hr plowing snow in the mid-late '70s. Get $100/hr for small engine repairs for past 3-4 years.
I have no idea HOW an O/O makes a living wage though.

I think he's saying he needs $2.50 to cover his costs, and then an additional dollar to be worth his while. That is, he needs $3.50 or thereabouts a mile. At 60mph he'd clear $60 per hour. But with the usual wastage of picking up, dropping off, traffic lights and what have you, probably more like $40 per hour. Good money, not great.

heck, you can make $40hr being a delivery driver for the local farm IF you wanted to work... She can't find anyone..drive and unload 40# boxes of meats.

Sort of. I was saying if I don't net 60/ hr after ALL costs. Otherwise I would just put in more hours at my day job and not have to leave the house.
I'm not a hauler. However, I have hauled things for people along my normal travel routes. $2000 to drag something to FL wasn't bad when I was already going. $90/ hr after cost was worth it.

I’ve used veritread for my utv and tractor. TX to MN & KS to MN, respectively. They were each about $1500. About 1000 miles for each, so you’re probably looking at more like $1.50 per mile.

When I look I consistently find $3 a mile. Some charge more, some a little less. I do not think I have seen under $2.75 a mile so far. Then again, I am outside the major hauling areas.

Talking of transportation costs, last summer I got a quote to truck the M1078 from Tacoma, WA to Kalispell, MT and it was around $7k and that was assuming that the driver didn't run into any delays. I forget the term the trucking company used, but any time spent waiting to get loaded, getting caught up in traffic or roadworks would have added to the final cost. The drive is 535 miles or so which works out to a little over $13/mile assuming no issues. Admittedly the M1078 is 17,000lb, 9ft tall, 8ft wide and 21ft long, but since I had no idea what such a thing would cost it was interesting to get some idea.

Given such high transportation costs I ended up driving the Jeep out to Tacoma, staying at a nice hotel, and towing the Jeep back behind the 1078. It ended up costing me around $750 for fuel, hotel and food for the 1,075+ mile roundtrip. I got to spend a night at a friend's place in Kettle Falls, WA on the way back and had the amazing experience of climbing big hills in the dark on I90 going no more than 25mph due to clogged fuel filters. :oops: Now that I think about it, it's a good thing that I didn't try to go over Fourth of July Summit or Lookout Pass!

How badly did it wear the tractor tires? I would think the tires would wear out in that distance...at least once.

That would have no problem hauling a jeep. It does however sound like a Kubota tractor designation.

What are you planning on using that monster for?
It's not Mine, it's MCMXI's unit.
And you could do just about anything you want to do with a large truck, like haul around his M6060, or his MX6000!

For having and making him happy, presumably. :) Either that, or he's prepping for the zombie apocalypse.
A friend in Hawaii gave it to me, and my plan at this stage is to upgrade a couple of things on it and then use it for fun and for a couple of towing scenarios.

In life it’s often about the journey rather than the intermediate goals. Sounds like a good time. I had an old NA diesel in a Chevy (6.2L, IIRC. I think the military used them in light duty rigs as well). The fuel filter would restrict flow when it got water accumulated in it. The. The old beast had little power with a dry fuel filter and almost no power with a wet one.
