So I purchased a towable backhoe to complement my BX2200. It was a little muddy out, but with more rain coming I wasn’t going to miss the chance to try out the new toy.

Dug around all 4 sides and got it loose enough where I could almost pull it out with the backhoe

Then I was able to use the BX and a chain to pull the stump out and drag it over to the burn pile.

Then used the BX to fill it back in and smooth it the best I could. With it being muddy I will have to wait until it dries and then use the box blade to get the finish I want before replanting the area.

I will say I need to figure out how to get some more ballast on the back of it…..or I guess I could try leaving it hooked to the tractor.

I am sure a bigger machine would have been faster/easier, but from an efficiency standpoint this was night and day difference from the last stump this size I pulled (pics below).

I just had the BX at the time. Spent 2-3 hours one day digging down all around it. Then another 2-3 hours another day with my sons using a pressure washer to expose it he roots…..then the BX and a sawzsaw to rip/cut through them.

This time it took me somewhere in the 1.5-2.5 hour range to do it by myself with 90% or the work done from the seat of the equipment. Given this was my first time using the backhoe, or any backhoe at all for that matter, I am sure it could have been done even quicker.

NICE ! Looks like it and the operator did a fine job ! Even the 'cleanup crew' came out to finish the job.
