Lanyard for keys

I was half way home from the camp the other day when I realized I didn’t have my tractor keys. I ended up finding them a few days later between my seats. I need to get a bright colored lanyard so I can avoid that frustration again in the future. I was thinking a bright colored neck style lanyard. Anybody got any better suggestions?

On our current ones we just use a white or orange keychain tag, like the ones with dealers names on them. A floating foam boat keychain will work also.
On our old tractor we had the key permanently attached with a small chain attached to the dash

I'm not near any water (but the floaty thing seems like a good idea) so we just use the bright orange Kubota keytag for the tractor and a bright fluorescent green curly armband type thingy for the lawn mower.

I have lost the mower one a couple times and found it fairly easily after brief searches.

I learned my lesson with snowmobile keys, they will sink immediately and can’t be found till spring. If you run the tractor while snow is present, use a bright ribbon or coiled lanyard.

I taped a key to the underside of the seat and it is always there when I need it if I can't find the key that is supposed to be hanging on the key rack.

I have a drawer in my barn for my equipment keys. They are always there unless they are being used. Easy solution.

Choose your favorite color. I use bright orange so if it's dropped in the snow it's easier to spot.

I don't see bright orange in the above selection but I do see yellow. The only one that stands out to my eyes is the fluorescent green. My experience with dropping things in the snow is that they get pushed under and only in the spring do you find them, after they go through the snowblower and get spit out in small pieces. That is what happened with the key fob for my Ford.

The green curly thingy is what I use on my mower keys. Works great for 3 reasons.
#1 - easy to see.....
#2 large enough and weird shaped enough it won't fall out of pockets.
#3 Won't prevent you from putting it somewhere and forgetting about it, but if you are dumb like me and have done this twice in 17 yrs or so, you can invoke rule #1

I got this book about knots and have been making lanyards and handle wraps for knives. In the book there is section for round or square sennits. I have been making those for keychains. A few I have made with easy to see colors. All are done with at least two different color paracord

I have that and I have a neck id card lanyard on it. One end is the tractor key, the other the shed. I store it on a hook in the garage. In the garage because I may already have my 'mud boots' on when I need the key.
Both keys because I invariably need one or the other. I grab the keys, droop it over my neck and trek out to the shed, open it and swing the door open. Then onto the tractor, where I insert the key and swing the lanyard a few times loosely around the base of the FEL control lever (keeps it away from my feet).
Since I have been doing this, I have not misplaced the keys or made a big 'to do' about it.
Bulky and clumsy? Yup, part of the goal.

These are awesome. Very cool idea.

My mower key has a metal bottle opener and tractor has a dealer plastic/rubber thing.

If you are worried about finding keys or other things, and you happen to have a newer iPhone, there’s nothing better than AirTags. You hang an AirTag on your keys and when within 50 feet or so the phone will take you to within inches of where the AirTag is. This is simply amazing.

I’m not actually sure what the distance limitation is. They also work if you lose the device that the AirTag is attached to and somebody with an iPhone comes by. The Airtag will communicate with the iPhone of a stranger and give you an indication of where the last place was that it was detected by that person, who you will never ever meet or know who it is. And they won’t know they helped you either.

Just another option. But an AirTag costs $25, and you need a newer iPhone to utilize the precision finding.

I can relate. Several years ago I modified the shoes on my snowblower.

My welds were, uhhh, ummm, lacking for a lot of reasons. D2Cat and Daren Todd helped me out with some great pointers.

Figured they'd fall off quick first trip out.

I changed color from black to Kubota Orange II.

Bright orange is easier to see in the dark in the snow.....

5 or so years later, they don't look any better, but have worked great!

When I drop stuff off of my snowplow I use my metal detector to find it before it chews up my snowblower!

I use these on the power cords. This one is attached to my boat. The bungee is only holding the compartment with the batteries in it open to vent. Never thought to put them on keys. SAR Tracker might be on to something.

I took a heavy duty silicone dog collar, cut off one end and attached magnet to one side, and keychain to other.
20 inches long, reflective, and bright pink. Should be okay in sow or summer.
