My B2410 makes a groaning noise when trying to move something with it, or when driven uphill. Similar sound to when a wood splitter is stuck and you're applying more pressure to it. My best guess is that it is a relief valve, probably the Check and High Pressure Relief Valve. But I can't get to it to hook up a test meter. Do I have to remove the whole lower hydraulic that raise and lower the three point and belly mower? Am I even barking up the right tree?

I'm not all thumbs: rebuilt 6 of the hydraulic cylinders so far. I've completely rebuilt two 8N engines and one Ferguson To30 engine. The guy who had the Kubota before me kind of "overused" it. Lots of welds, other indications of working it pretty hard, so I'm slowly catching up with maintenance.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you in high range or low range when this noise happens? If in high range I would consider it pretty normal,

Thanks for the reply. It happens in low, but is worse in High. It's noisier when the RPMs are low, as well.

Assuming it’s HST may be normal. They do have a whine. If it’s still moving normally, not losing power but just being noisy, probably wouldn’t get too wound up about it from a relief valve/mechanical issue standpoint.

If it has a few hundred (or more) hours on it, and you don’t know for a fact when it was last changed or what was put in it, changing the hydraulic fluid to make sure it has acceptably fresh SUDT2 or SUDT in it may be advisable as it doesn’t sound like the prior owner was very kind to it. If it has something like cheap as dirt Tractor Supply Universal Hydraulic Fluid in it, personally I’d want it out of there ASAP. That stuff is probably fine in a wood splitter or similar, but not so much for a HST transmission. Changing it out isn’t cheap but on a used tractor with unknown history I’d change it before I started wrenching on it.

I know mine whines less at higher RPM but not sure if it’s really whining less or if it’s the same reason my truck tires whine less when I turn up the radio. If it’s in high range, I take the whine as notice to downshift.

If it’s whining and it isn’t HST; well that’s a different issue.

OK, thanks. I'll change the fluid and turn up the radio. I'll let you know if any of that helps.
