Reading operators handbook on new 2022 RTV-GX850 and calls out oil and filter change after 20 hours. (page 50 in my book)
Also call for 4 qts of oil with filter change. I added new filter and 31/2 qts and my dipstick is way past engine oil level, maybe half
way up dipstick. Am I missing something here.

was this before or after you started it after the oil change? Filter will hold some after it’s been started. Not sure of the machine, but what kind of angle does the dipstick go in at, a little bit may not be a lot 🤷‍♂️

also is it possible the wrong drain plug was pulled? Have seen it many times where the transmission was drained instead of the engine, and oil was added on top (my experience is automotive tho, have no experience with rtv to know if this even possible)

I don’t know about the RTV. I do know on my Mule it’s quite easy to pull the wrong plug. They’re all just a bolt head sort of looking thing just visible through an access hole in a skid plate and they aren’t all that far apart, so unless you want to spend a bunch of extra time pulling skid plates to identify what the plug is a part of, you better take a good look at the pics in the manual before you start pulling plugs. Again, the RTV may be totally different.

What color was the oil that you drained, and what type of oil did you put into the engine? I am 99.9% certain that you drained the transmission, and overfilled the engine. I believe that the Sidekick has an automatic transmission, and the fluid is red in color. Engine oil is either black or a golden yellow in color, depending on how many hours or miles are on it.

The transmission in a Side Kick is not automatic, it is a CVT with a centrifugal clutch using a Hi, Low, and Rev manual shift. The transmission fluid is S UDT 2.
If I remember correctly, the engine oil drain plug has a 14mm head, while the transmission drain plug has a 17mm head and a long magnet on the end.

Thanks, I stand corrected, and should I ever own a sidekick, I am glad to know the size differences for the drain plugs.
