Kubota Starters

Was not sure how to title this post but have similar issues on several Kubota products. Have 2 ZD326S and one of them 90% of the time the key will not start it so I have to turn key on and jump start the starter with a screwdriver and then use the manual shut off switch to shut it off. The other times the key will start it but doesn’t shut it down.

BX2230 turn key on and many times just lots of clicking as I turn key numerous times and finally engages and starts. I can clean terminals and ground which seems to help some but after about a week back to clicking. The key will not shut it down so I manually press the shaft to shut motor down.

Now my RTV X900 is now acting the same - clicking before starting and acting like it wants to keep running when the key is switched to off. Battery is relatively new.
Sound familiar to anyone? Fixes? How to troubleshoot?

Check your electrical connections. Start by thoroughly cleaning your battery terminals and leads and grounds. Check your fuses. Sounds to me like you have battery issues if it's clicking instead of turning the engine over.

My ZD326 parking brake safety switch was having intermittent issues, changing that fixed my start problems.

1) You have two issues. a) The fuel shutoff circuit is not activating the fuel shut off solenoid, or the solenoid is bad. B) Safety circuit that activates the starter solenoid has an issue that needs resolved.

2) This has been a common problem with BX tractors of that age. Resistance builds up in the contacts of the safety circuit, and voltage drops to the point that the solenoid does not fully engage. Solution is replace the safety switches, or more easily, insert a relay between the safety circuit, and the starter solenoid. The safety circuit energizes the relay, and the relay energizes the starter solenoid.

3) This sounds like the same issue as 2) above...

The BX and RTV have the same design shut off solenoid. I will clean and check the safety switches and look into the relay. Thanks

I had a starting problem on my RTVx and it turned out to be the shut off solenoid. Dealer had the item on the shelf so it may be common across different models.

I did some research at the time and if I recall correctly the solenoid has one magnetic field to start the movement of the solenoid and a second magnetic field to pull the solinoid and fuel rack to the run position.

It was an intermittent problem and tough to trouble shoot. If I waited a half hour or so after not starting, the machine would start back up.
