How have you been trying to crank start it?

I suspect that the glow plug circuit is not working properly or not properly used during starting.

Also how do you shut down?

Hi, I just replaced the glow plugs and I saw a video on YouTube explaining the process that he used on his L260. I fire the motor for a couple seconds and then I turn the glow plugs for 10 to 20 seconds and try to fire and repeat but I can get it to fire. It tries but I think my battery isnt push the starter fast enough to get it running. I was hoping a block heater would help the process

Do you have a decompression knob?

What is a “kill switch “? Most older diesel engines are shut down by manually cutting fuel supply. Some people mistakenly use the decompression knob instead of the shut down lever

Start sequence is

Hold the glo Plug for up to 30 seconds
Pull decompression knob
Turn key to start position
Let engine spin up to speed and push decompression knob in
Tractor starts
Release the key

If the engine is not spinning properly I suggest you repair or replace the starter. The starters available today are much better and even a rebuilt version of what you have will spin faster (probably)

These start very hard when its below freezing especially. Even with decompression valve and good battery. I installed a anti-freeze hose heater it makes a pretty good difference. My land is hilly so when it's covered with snow I don't try to do anything, and I don't want to brake anything on the poor old thing. I have my wheels set wide to yard wood and use it some for garden work.

Where did you get your anti freeze hose heater? Do you have a part number.

I took mine to a starter repair shop and got a rebuilt replacement.

I believe that you can get the more modern gear reduction style that would work but I don’t know what the process is to identifying that starter
