The only position that is using cylinder regeneration is position 3 which is "fast dump". When you go past that to position 4 you have normal speed cylinder/motor control. With the 3 position valve your only have regenerative dump which will not work with a motor.

I made my 3 position regeration only valve work. See post 34 above.

I read it. Interesting workaround.

Four position is both which is why it is preferable. My understanding from discussions on this forum is the Kubota four position valves function as follows:

Position 1 - neutral tandem center - both work ports blocked and pump unloaded to HPCO
Position 2 - Pump to cylinder, cylinder to tank
Position 3 - pump to cylinder, with cylinder regenerative loop
Position 4 - pump to cylinder, cylinder to tank.

The only position that is using cylinder regeneration is position 3 which is "fast dump". When you go past that to position 4 you have normal speed cylinder/motor control. With the 3 position valve your only have regenerative dump which will not work with a motor.

Dan
Thanks for clearing that up for me.

You could replace it with a 4 position valve that gives you regen and motor control. There are multiple aftermarket valves that would work but they arexa little pricey. I would simply add an inexpensive ($75) single spool valve next to your existing valve and use it for the motor control.

Dan
I'll probably do that. Do you know if the existing Kubota 3 way valve with regen on my BX2200 has an open or closed center valve? If I price a new valve I need to what kind of set up I currently have.

Your tractor is open center. and your auxiliary valve should be open center with power beyond. Here is one I mounted next to the LA525 loader valve. It's my quick and dirty third function for a grapple.

You'll want about the smallest GPM valve offered too.
The valve in my picture is an 8 GPM Prince Wolverine MB11B5C11. Compact, readily available, comes with the power beyond adapter, and costs $115. The ubiquitous 40 LPM P40 valves sold by Summit and a host of others are also good fits and a bit cheaper. The power beyond sleeve is usually not included and will add $20 to the price. The very low cost ones also often have BSPP not SAE ports. In the US the BSPP port adapters are less common than SAE adapters and a little more expensive so they also eat up your "savings".
