Hi all, newbie here. I have 13 hours on my BX-2680 with blower and I see the coolant level is just above the “L” level. In the tractor manual it says do not mix coolant brands or bad things happen. So my question is whether I can go to my local Carquest and buy a compatible EG coolant. Thanks!

Just above L when cold is acceptable. Where is it when hot?

As TOH said, just above L when cold is fine. And yes, you can add EG from your local auto store.

thanks, I didn’t know that’s normal (total newbie to diesel and tractors). I’ll check again next time the engine gets hot
Its an expansion tank which catches the overfow when the engine gets hot. Same as on a car or truck.

As the engine warms up the coolsnt in the engine expands and overflows into the empty space in the tank raising the level to the full line. As the engine cools off and the coolant contracts that overflow is sucked back into the engine and the level in the expansion tank drops to the low line.

You check the level and top off when the engine is at full operating temperature.

When I went to the Kubota dealer to get a jug of Kubota antifreeze. The parts guy puts a gallon of Polaris antifreeze on the counter. I question it as I wanted Kubota. He says we don't stock the Kubota but the Polaris is the same antifreeze so I bought ($25.) it and used it in my Kubota and Polaris ranger. It was a yellow green color. Later I was at a store they had Shell or Texaco antifreeze for $5. a gallon a 50/50 mix and I bought one. And have used it in my Kubota and ranger since. Same color works right.

$5 for a gallon of 50/50 premix is a steal. I bought some a few years ago, and it was $10 a gallon. The full strength was about $12 a gallon and distilled water was $1 a gallon, so for $14 I got 2 gallons of 50/50 self-mixed antifreeze.

Brand doesn't matter at all, no matter what the fan boys say.

TYPE matters. A lot.
