Hello,
Wanted to share a rookie lesson I learned in case it saves some other poor souls a coronary- I’m not new to tractors but I am new to new tractors as the recent owner of an L4701 gear drive which has all of “the emmisions stuff”.
i was doing some fairly heavy crp bushogging which tends to clog the radiator screens on every tractor I’ve had so I know to watch the temp gauge to clean them. So I’m plugging along and just a little before I would normally stop and clean the screen an orange light on the lower right dash comes on. It has a picture of the engine and the letters EM I’m the middle. So I immediately panicked thinking engine emergency. I stopped and turned off the tractor And luckiy Had phone signal and was able to search this forum. This light is #11 in the manual picture and is called the emission indicator light. All the manual says is if this light comes on take steps to lower the water temp to reduce emissions. It was no biggie. I cleaned the screen and got right back to work. So while I find it suppreamly annoying that this light exists I’m glad my engine wasn’t broke.
Lesson learned with this tractor clean the radiator screen about 20 minutes sooner than I would have.
hope this saves someone some trouble or worry.
thanks

THAT sort of post is the REAL VALUE of these types of Forums…. SHARED KNOWLEDGE of the subject that can assist other owners. THANKS (even tho’ I don’t own that particular model…it’s still a valuable piece of information.)

Ok, as the owner of another 4701 DT, I had never heard of this. Thanks for the post. [Probably not only the 4710 that this could affect.] In fact, I haven't heard of "lowering coolant temp'" to reduce emissions. I'll have to ponder that one.
