Garage Floor Protection

My garage floor is getting beat up from removing and installing the loader (I take it off when I need to mow). Anyone have any suggestions or ideas to prevent further damage?

I think you want something that lets you slide on.

I hate OSB because the stuff just pulverizes and makes a bigger mess.

3/4 plywood will last longer. MDF might slide better.

1/4 steel plate will work best but will be slippery. A sheet of HDPE will work too.

I generally don't worry about my floors but it looks like your floors are exceptionally soft. Mine don't gouge the way yours does. I occasionally get skid marks but no digging in. Heat spalling is a different story...

You could just leave your loader on.

Or, put down a cheap sheet of masonite. It's hard enough to stay together and cheap enough to be disposable.

However, my shop is not a show piece, so I would just let it ride if it were me.

That's mighty soft concrete ! Is it 'fresh' or how old it is ??
A sheet of MDO ( IF you can get it...) works very well
concrete 'forms' are made of it, as well as outdoor signs...

I use a variety of things, a pair of 2 x 6s go under the back blade when I lower it to park the tractor, furniture dollies to move whole implements around, and rubber stall mats under the FEL bucket and the snow blower when I lower them. Keeps them from rusting on the concrete. If you put the bucket of your FEL on a rubber mat, it probably won't slide and would stop the rests from gouging. Or depending on the size of your loader, two mats would support the whole loader. They are 4 by 6', although I think you can also find 3 by 5. TSC and most farm stores carry them.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. House was new construction 2 years ago and I was also surprised by how easily it gouged.

Horse stall mats would work quite well.

Simple, leave the loader on, buy a zero turn to mow with.








That is NOT in my budget either!!!!

I set my loader on dolleys, which makes it very easy to slide into the corner of the garage while it is being stored.

Not enough Portland in that slab. Use plywood on the floor.

I used to remove my B2601 loader when I would mow. Is it possible to remove the loader somewhere else? Grassy area, dirt area?

you could even do it in your lawn, mow around it and then put the loader back on and finish that little spot?

It's certainly an option but the garage is nice as I can disconnect it and still park the tractor in the same spot to easily reconnect it when needed. Horse stall mats are looking like the winner currently from a price vs performance perspective. I'd love to do the racedeck tiles for the entire floor but I can justify $100 much easier than $2000. That and I can use the extra money for more implements that I don't have any room for!

Greetings, I had that problem with ice chains tearing up garage floor. I went to a gravel pit that had conveyors for moving gravel to different piles and asked if they had any used conveyor belt. They gave 18 inch and 24 inch wide, what ever I wanted for free. I just measured what size I needed and run the tractor along on it, no more floor problems.

THose old conveyor belts have a ton of uses. Setting up on pavement for backhoe use? Piece of conveyor under riggers! park on a dirt floor, now park on conveyor sheets. Shed floor, cover it with conveyor materials. Free is the perfect price!
