Bust it ! (Overloading front loader too many times, I guess ). I've got less mechanical skill than a bowl of porridge, so would appreciate some advice. A welder has said he can weld the drive shaft, and the axle if I take it apart. How do I go about it please ? Kubota B7000D

I've done that a half dozen times with my B5200 only it's 2wd and the king pin is a bit too spindly for a front loader. You could have it welded but you couldn't expect any more than half the strength of what it was. You really need to find someone that is parting out a tractor. I think the first step would be to find out how many models they used that axle on.

I might have confidence in a welded axle-housing but I don’t think a welded axle would hold up.
I base that upon my experience with welded cast-housings which I have repaired myself. I once chained-down the 3-pt of a 9N Ford to keep a trailer I was pulling on a hay-ride from over-running the tractor when going down-hill. That worked just fine.
What DIDN’T work so well was when I forgot the chains after unhitching the trailer .... and I raised the 3-pt lever to the full UP postion....which snapped the lift-arm Upper Forks. Those are made of cast iron or cast steel and they snapped right at the joint of the “U” with the bellcrank.
I needed to use that tractor right-away and used my MIG welder to put them back together. I didn’t notch them out of fear I‘d lose the ability to accurately put them back-together..... (think about breaking a wooden pencil and then putting it back together so-as to appear perfect again)...
I put them together like a pencil and surface-welded them.... and 6 years later they were still fully capable of their original purpose, lifting heavy rotary-cutter/shredder, box-blades, etc. with nary a problem. I’m not certain that would work on a solid axle in the splines-area... but good luck with it.

That is a nasty break. Looks to me like you might be looking for a replacement housing at a minimum. A few years ago I only had the bush hog on the rear of my tractor when I decided to cross over a plowed field to pick up a rock that my tenant had unearthed. It turned out to be a lot larger than I first thought and almost filled the bucket. Shortly after this I had to rebuild one side of the front axle as I had split the outer race of the bearing right in half. I should have picked the rock up with the back hoe on the back for more counter weight as I usually do with loader work. Or better still, dig a hole and bury it as I have done in the past.

Hello and sorry to hear about your misfortune. I have a complete front axle out of a B6100/B7100, not sure if they are the same or not, but I could provide the casting #s off of mine if that would help. I just joined after lurking here for awhile and posted an ad for my leftover B6100/B7100 parts in the classifieds section.

Thanks, but I'm in Scotland. I guess the OR stands for Oregon ?
