Try a mixture of 50% acetone and 50% red ATF.

Yea carb cleaner ain't going to cut it.

Like SidecarFlip said 50/50 Acetone / ATF

Other things are:
Calcium Lime Rust to break up the rust
Heat part to break rust bond.

The 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF works real good. Mix it in a glass or metal container or it will dissolve the container eventually. I mix it up and draw a syringe full. You can then put the solution exactly where you want it and not waste any. Put a few drops on the seized area every once in a while to keep it saturated.

Tap the seized area gently with a small ball peen hammer to help break the barrier of rust.

Another good product is KROIL.

Kind of surprised when the OP stated brake cleaner. Brake Cleaner has no penetrating / lubricating value what so ever.

I always use the acetone / atf mix. I have plenty of acetone around. I use it for pre cleaning aluminum prior to TIG welding.

He said Carb cleaner, not any better than Brake cleaner for this kind of an operation.

That is correct. Now I have 2 Mary Kay pink units.....

Far as the toe nail polish thing, not sure about that. Don't paint my toes. Hell, I cannot reach them very well...

Interestingly, only the fenders turned pink. The hoods, brush bars and wheels stayed Kubota Orange.

An ultrasonic cleaner would help a lot. I have one in the shop for carbs etc. They work all through the part and literally explode away the buildup. We have freed up a lot of parts over the years.

Roger that. I looked up ultrasonic cleaners and am seeing 300+, and they are a separate unit, I can't just plop it into the bucket i'm already using?

Out of my price range =( too bad, sounded cool!

Yeah, ours was around 500 IIRC and it is big enough to drop a head into.

Any powersports or small engine place around will have one and probably wouldn't mind throwing it in for you if you ask nice. I know I use ours a lot more for other people than I do our own stuff.

They are like magic the way they work.

When the part can be submerged in a container, such as this case and highly corroded, has anyone used a product like Evapo-Rust or similar?

Since it removes the rust, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be more effective than the typical WD40, PB Blaster, homemade brews, etc...

justinhw,
The parts manual for B6000 shows a circlip on the rod on the inside (pic 1 and 2 you posted). Have you taken that off yet? If not, I would take it off, cut two blocks of wood to fit next to lever on outside (pic 3 you posted) and put a block of wood on rod on inside and using hammer, try to gently tap it out of housing. Parts manual also shows two o-rings on the rod, can't really see by the drawing but I suspect one o-ring on each outside and inside of the rod.

If you get a chance to go ultrasonic, you will need new o-rings. If they are old they tend to be blasted apart and disappear.

To see how much the cleaners do, throw a piece of aluminum foil in the tank and turn it on. Within a minute the foil will be Swiss cheese and almost gone.

CLR, or ZEP Calcium, Lime, rust remover will also do the same thing, for cheap. :D
