M7040- 3 point hitch will not go down, when you raise the draft control all the way up and the lift control lever down the arms want to raise to the top and I can here as if the hydraulics are in a strain, this happened once before but seemed to correct itself, any ideas

I bet your bleed valve is stuck. Ever turn the knob located below the seat in the middle. That is the lowering control knob and I bet it's stuck. I 'exercise' mine almost everytime I use the 3 point. If you don't it becomes stuck.

Could also be the draft sensing linkage on the back of the tractor that activates the lift cylinders but I suspect it's the bleed valve and it's stuck. On cab tractors, there is an access plate. On open station tractors accessing the valve and linkage is much more difficult as in removing the seat and seat pan to gain access to the top of the case and the valve.

If you take off the left fender you can see it on top the case but getting to it is virtually impossible unless you have tiny hands and tools.

Good luck

What happens when you push the draft and the lift both to the lower end ?

Almost positive it's the bleeder valve. It's a small valve but hard to get to.

Do you have the WSM (aka service manaual) for the tractor?

If not ask, a few of us can tell you where to get a copy. ;)

IMHO the rate of drop screw(valve)isn't the reason the 3 pt hitch is going into relief IE straining. The 3 pt control valve isn't going into neutral position to stop oil pressure to rockshaft cylinders. Is feedback rod attached correctly?

Had one recently with broken draft control linkage, at the top link. I have no earthly idea HOW they broke it but it was definitely broken, causing similar issue.

Hi, Im having a very similar problem. Three point only goes to about 2/3rds height, and the draft lever, when put down all the way, actually makes the three point come back up and the engine labours. Here's a video: Did you resolve your problem? Any hints?
