Molybdenum based EP grease

I will and have been for the last 20 years or so with no issues using LE Teflon fortified synthetic grease. I might add, not just the tractors, but all the implements as well. Most of my implements are PTO driven, not static. Never had issue one and don't anticipate any.

With grease, like anything else, you get what you pay for. A 150 pound pail of LE grease is almost 2000 bucks now. I find it interesting that the dealership I retired from used it exclusively on heavy truck services, they never had an issue either.

I'm trying Amalie Pro-Tac+ (Amazon) 5% moly. No judgement yet, only one lubing so far. The best price for highest percentage of moly I could find.

The 5% moly is enough to make a difference when you really need it. Should work out for you.

Don't know about the price difference but Amsoil also has 5% moly.

So I googled some and found a product by "Triax Guardian"
in the "questions" section someone asked about 2% Moly
their response was interesting:

Moly is at 2%. If you increase moly above 2% the product is no longer usable in any type of wheel bearings or rotating parts because the molybdenum dysulfide is abrasive. At 2% it provides a very high level of EP protection, up to 100,000 lbs per square inch AND you can use it in wheel bearings under high loads.

I’ve got a simpler. (And I. Believer. BETTER solution). I use moly on the FEL and elsewhere it’s specified... and I DON”T use it on wheel bearings or other roller berings (where i use NLG#2 because that’s whats specified for BEARINGS.).

I really don’t know/understand why home-mechanics think they are so much smarter than the people who design and make these things. Use what’s specified and make your life simple.

Maybe I should fill a grease gun with Crisco and use that. It's pretty cheap and a nice shade of white too........

I don't know, Crisco is probably better than some stuff on the market. I'd rather have that than anything that's clay base.

I've been using Schaeffer 238 grease on my back hoe and FEL. Seems to be working great. It contains 5% Molybdenum. Does anyone else use this?

How has the valvoline synthetic worked out for you? I was thinking about switching to it. I have a kubota bx23s. I do not use a whole lot of grease so price is not a factor.

An old post so you may not get a reply from mattwithcats. I have been using the Mobil 1 grease for a few years on all of my equipment and trailers. So far so good.

Bulldog has always promoted Amsoil products so I tried the motor oil and grease now it is all I use. The grease stays in place, used Red Tacky for years and was pleased but the Amsoil is now my go to.

My local NAPA now carries a limited supply of oil and grease on the shelf.
