B6000 new to me ... gonna try and get her started

Well fellas.... i just aquired a lil b6000... she looks a lil rough. I have some good knowledge of cummins diesels, but nothing with these tractors. Wanting to get some help with some details of what you all would do before trying to fire her up... should i pop the injectors or glow plugs and spray some oil in cylinders?
Can i change the fuel pump to electric. I have more questions but i need to get back to work. Im in San bernardino, Ca in case there is anyone that specializes in these. Thanks guys and gals.!!!

Do not change pump to electric. As designed, it can run without any charging system once started so you never get stuck away from its shed with a dead battery. The charging system is a dynamo of around 11 amps so you do not have a lot of amps to spare.

Read about decompression feature and then turn engine over by hand.

If it turns over, new fuel and filter, trans oil, clean suction screen, and engine oil and filter. New coolant.

Read to see if there is a drain for clutch area which may be filled with water from sitting outdoors.

Never use "quick start,"!!!!

Fellas apologies for not introducing myself im new to this forum!! So far from reading u guys are respectful and lots of knowledge. I always wanted a little tractor more than i need it but i could definitely use it around the house. I had only a few minutes to look at the tractor and at the least it will sit in front of my house looking pretty. Payed 200 bucks for it. Knowing a lil about diesels im fired up about getting her running.

Lil foot, the left wheel is kicked up on those red bricks as well as tire i think is flat.

My buddy the previous owner doesnt know much about it so i assume hasnt ran in very long time. But he had planned on taking it to a local tractor shop and dropping it off. I want to atleast get it to crank and work from there.

Cool little tractor! The only thing funky about the B6000 is that the PTO is a non-standard size and turns the "wrong" way. Very bulletproof machine!

No ether ever, period, you will bend or break things!
These are very high compression engine, so if it's damaged you might not get enough compression to start.

No need for an electric pump as the injection pump only need a gravity flow to feed it.

Turn by hand to make sure it's not seized.

Make use it's in neutral as with it sitting for any length of time, I can bet your going to have to split it and do a clutch job on it, as the clutch plate will rust and seize to the flywheel.

The B6000's have a unique engine, they spin the opposite of all other kubota engines, as also so does the PTO.


Bill, I think the front tire is flat, thats why it looks wonky.

The B6000 has an electric fuel pump. If you do not hear it clicking it isn't working. Where you live you won't need much glow plug time. On the starter switch it is left to glow the plugs and right to start. You will have to depress the clutch pedal because it has a safety switch. If it was sitting for a while you might need to blead the injector pump where the fuel enters it. I would change out all the fluids. There is no oil filter, just a wire screen that needs cleaned. Be careful with it, it's a bit expensive. Most parts are available from Messick's some are not cheap anymore because parts are drying up for these old girls. Good luck.

Shouuld i squirt a little oil in the cylinders. Sadly im away for work and dont get back for another week or so to mess with it.

If your going to put anything in the cylinders use a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF to free up the pistons and rings.
The glow plugs would be the best to take out, and inject some fluid.
Leave the glow plugs out to purge the fluid out.

Whew! One of my neighbors had a gray market Yanmar that had about the same lean, but the opposite direction. Turned out to be a horribly designed kingpin/bearing/seal/outer gearcase setup that continually ate some very expensive, very hard to get parts. He finally sold the POS.
If it were mine, I'd try to turn the engine over by hand, and if it turns, I'd change the coolant & engine oil. Checking the condition of those fluids will be a good starting diagnosis point.

It sounds as if your getting some good info so far.
1 thing "I" would do is> take the GP's out & spray the 50/50 mix in.. just enough to cover the piston & enough to run over the sides to get to the rings.. & while the GP's are out, test them.
U can use a battery charger{who doesn't have one of those} + on the spade & - on the body.. NO NEED to wait till it gets CHERRY red.. once it "starts to smoke", U KNOW its good.. BE CAREFUL.. its gonna be hot.. DONT touch the tip.
U can do a count while its heating.. they autta be RED by 10 seconds.. anything slower & its a good chance the plugs on its way out..
& its a good idea to "replace things" in sets.. 1 GP burnt out? get ALL new ones.. Time to change the oil? change ALL the fluids & filters & WRITE the date on them..
U find u have a skip or miss & u go get the injectors checked & they find "1" bad.?? Change/rebuild ALL of them..
U see what I'm getting at..
Leave the GP's out but cover the engine for a few days to give the mixture time to work.. THEN spin the engine to "blow" the mix outta the cylinders..
Its a real good idea to loosen the fuel inlet screw going into the injection pump to purge any air out of the system..
THEN loosen the lines AT THE INJECTORS & try to start it.. What your "looking for" is fuel squirting out of the loosened lines.. IF that happens, your ready to start the engine.. just tighten the lines & it should fire off..
The starters on those tractors is good.. but not bullet proof.. IF u keep cranking on a non-starting engine, they WILL burn up.. SO, make it a habit of giving the starter an 8- 10 count & STOP cranking to let it kool down.. & try again..

The ATF and acetone mix is my go to (read cheap) substitute for PBlaster. I keep the mix in a spray bottle. Does as good as PBalster for a lot less cost.

If u got some time, do a search.. its pretty interesting.
BUT then again, its "Utube".. & results may vary.. Lol
