Hi,
I am a newbie using a b2601 for some residential type backhoe, grading, and yard work. I received the tractor last January and have 44 hours on it. I decided to go ahead and perform the 50 hour service. On one thread I read someone discussed changing out the hydraulic fluid because the dealer stuff can be junk and they noticed improvement with the UDT2.
The dirtiest work I did was moving about 60 tons of red gravel, which dumped some dust on the tractor.
On my service I found:
1. The screen for the radiator was totally clean
2. There was some red dust in the engine compartment, but not a crazy amount
3. The outer air filter was dirty on outside, but inside was clean and yellow.
4. The inner air filter was pristine and I left it there.
5. Engine oil was dirty and dark. I replaced with Mobil one 10W30
6. The hydraulic fluid was clean, straw colored, but I replaced anyway with about 3.5 gal of UDT2. There was a bunch left in lines and cylinders.
7. I replaced the filters for hst and hydraulic.
After starting it up and letting it run for 5 minutes, I took it for a spin.
It Has appreciably faster ground speed
It does not whine when going up hills. Even empty if was always whining going up a mildly steep hill, especially in High. No longer. Hydraulics seem more responsive and powerful.
I was attributing to likely combination of clean air filter, new hydraulic filters. Maybe the UDT2 given the lack of hydraulic whining.
Any educated thoughts about what made the difference?
Could cheap hydraulic fluid make that much of a difference?
Thanks
Dan
