I was awoken this morning about 0300 by at least 2 packs of yotes ( coyotes ). I dont know if it was a couple bitches, with the young hunting, or one pack trying to move in on another. Then one let loose about 50 yards from the window, scared the beejezzs out of me. Im thinking it might be time to dig out the rusty rifle and take up a stand down the buds sheep farm, and see I can still work a call.

I have to quit dumping fish guys in my back 40. The coyotes (4 of them) are lounging on and around my shooting range berm.

Our dogs hear them sometimes start howling along at night
Pretty amusing...

Kindred spirits I reckon

Had them open up part way out my road 2 days ago but it's hard to get a crack at them unless your setup for it.

Here it's either coy-dogs or foxes three nights out of four.

I hate to go out for the skunks in the yard. ;-)

The coyotes around her steer clear of my property (wolves are their #1 enemy), but I can hear them running on the neighbors place, and they get pretty loud.
Over last winter I could hear them raising a ruckus down over the train tracks, and as soon as I got dressed and set up with a couple guns, and headed down the hill they seen or heard me coming and they cut out in a quick hurry.

I keep 2 .17 hmr’s available in my house at all times. One in my office where I am working 90% of the time and one in the bedroom simply for yotes and whistle pigs. (My wife and I have no kids yet, and they get put in the safe with the rest when kids are over.) Over 3 years I’ve been averaging 3 yotes per year and at least 10 chucks per year. Hate them both with a passion.

Foxes aren’t bad. The help keep the rodents in check, don’t generally predate on fawns and mind their own, unless rabid. I don’t have a skunk issue, thankfully.

We have coyotes here too. Killing deer and anything else they can. A driveway alarm set by a bait pile and a rifle with a night scope is needed to eliminate them.
I wanted to poision them but have found no good concoction to give them that they would eat.

I’ve heard of some hanging large treble hooks with wire with a chunk of meat on them. High enough that they have to jump for it. Doesn’t sound like a great method to me.

Nah...
A little too barbaric to me. Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age But I don't like to see any animal suffer...

If yotes or wolves were a problem for me, I'd prefer to shoot them. End it quick.

not a big fan of poison either... too much of a chance of harming animals that are not a nuisance.

Too bad fur prices are in the toilet... when I was a kid we were getting about 80 bucks for a coyote / red fox were high too.
40 bucks for a coon and 5-6 bucks a rat....

bought my first motorcycle and cars... cash.

oh, and an occasional 4 finger bag of sticky green. ;)

Yep I'm with you on that, either trap or shoot, no need to harm other animals. That being said bobcats will take a fair amount of deer as well and I would imagine a number of farm animals. Bottom line is everything has to eat.

I thought that rag went out of business, have seen one since the fur prices tanked. I think most of my rat and coon traps are still in the barn. Maybe I should look and see if they aint all rusted to hell and back and wax them up,,ya never know

Skeets, I saw the title and though you were starting a thread on politics. It, at first, looks like yotes is actually "votes" they way the "Y" is under lined.

I think yotes get way more blame for killing healthy livestock than they actually do. The animals they take down are most cases separated from others and wounded.

Possums, coons, hawks prey on bird fowl. Even if the ducks, guinea, chickens are caged they will try to dig in.

Funny you mention hawks, last couple weeks we've been finding a lot of bird feathers in the yard then started seeing a hawk a few times a day. Well a couple days ago I just happened to out with the pellet gun trying to thin out the squirrel population when the hawk landed in a tree close to me. He was on a branch close to the tree itself so I aimed a couple inches away from him and shot. I guess he took the hint, haven't seen feathers in the yard since.
