Just when I thought I had made up my mind to get an L3901 instead of a B2650 or an L4060 -- is there really no option for a 3rd function valve on an L3901 ???

...follow-up..........

looking on Messicks site - it appears you can order a 3rd function valve - BUT it says if you have a backhoe - the 3rd function valve will not work properly. ???

Surely someone on OTT can confirm this or not...anyone out there have an L3901 with the Backhoe and a 3rd function valve ? If so, does it work properly or issues ? Cause on Kubota they wont let you build it that way...

No doubt the hoses won't work but there is no reason the valve itself wouldn't. you would just have to get new hoses and fittings to suit. We usually build our own third function and rear remote valves for these tractors anyway because the Kubota system is both too expensive and awkward

Yote ---- I was told by the dealer "they can do it" but that it just wont be a Kubota 3rd function....you agree or is yours a kubota part ? (and that you cant run backhoe and 3rd function at same time - cant imagine when you would)

Do you ever feel underpowered by either the backhoe or the 3rd function or do they seem to be fine? Where is your thumb buttom to run 3rd function ?

I have the 3901, with BH77. Added the 3rd function valve myself, and it works great.

Mine is not Kubota, but that doesn’t bother me.

That’s a funny question but I have never tried them both at the same time, I’m curious as to what you intend to do***129488;

The only time I feel a little underpowered is when I get stuck. I’m doing a lot of habitat work in a cedar swamp and occasionally I go to far and get stuck. The backhoe is not great at picking the rear end off the ground to swing out of ruts. It will do it but the main boom must be in tight to the tractor. Other than that it has way more power than I need. I can pick up trees that I have no business picking up with the grapple.

My thumb buttons came in a new loader handle, old one off, New one on.

Here is the previous owners hunting shack. It’s 5x6 and the framing and siding are all rough cut 2x4’s and 2x6’s covered in thick rolled roofing. All the wood was wet and I couldn’t even guess the weight but the grapple bit on the tiniest of edged and I hauled it out approximately 200 yards on a non improved trail. The power of hydraulics is impressive.

Go with a WR Long 3rd Function. Usually cheaper, made in NC and most I've seen don't hang down underneath like some Kubota 3rd Functions. I'm feel sure they should have something that will work. Most dealers around here would rather put them on instead of Kubota.

What additional fittings did you need to complete this and hose length? Would (2) t-fittings work? One at the inlet to backhoe that would connect to 3rd function and one at the outlet to backhoe back up to 3rd function? I understand the hydraulics for the backhoe is using the power beyond valve it just makes sense to t into them but maybe I am all wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

The dealer installed a WR Long kit on my L2501. I have been happy with it. I like the rocker switch on the handle. No problems so far, other than the wire to the battery chafed through and blew the fuse because it was placed under the weight of the hoses near the joystick and rubbed.

OP, plenty of people with 3rd functions on their L3901.
