I have a L3000 (03) and the PTO clutch will not release, It has a dual clutch and the trans works fine. Any tricks on how to free the pressure plate from the flywheel? Thanks--M

To help I need to ask you a few straight forward questions. What happens at half petal clutch engagement in other words shoveing down on the petal half stroke? Does the power train stop pulling or start slipping the clutch and still trys to pull? :p

Thanks-with the clutch half way down it releases the transmission but not the PTO. With the clutch completely down the PTO still has complete power. I am using the PTO (chipper) with the clutch completely depressed and the chipper works fine--thanks-M

Okay here's what I think is going on. Look down at your clutch petal and find the retainer nut on the turn buckle attached to the clutch rod petal. ( note engine off PTO shifter in the up positon ) Check free play and adjust by backing the nut off the rod and turn the buckle to a free play of 1 inch ( 0.8 - 1.2 ) is factory specification. Now look to the right side of the clutch bell housing and locate the daul clutch cover and remove. You will need a 6mm spanner wrench or in English a .24 inch head to adjust the adjustment bolt snug ( not tight ) against the pressure plate of the live independent clutch plate. Now back it off one and 1/7 turn counter-clock wise for a clearance of 1.4 -1.5 mm or in english 0.055 to0.0059 in. Tighten the locknut while holding the clearance with the adjusting bolt. Repeat on the remaining two adjusting bolts and each time you turn the crankshaft recheck you single clutch petal free play to make sure the linkage is still correct for the travel clutch. I use a remote start switch with the stop ( red knob ) rod pulled out to prevent auto ignition while bumping the starter to get to the next bolt. Keep repeating the above procedure while cranking to the next adjustment bolt and checking free petal play as I go. I'm pretty sure the PTO clutch will disengage with the clutch petal shoved to the end of travel if all the linkage, bell crank lever and clutch adjustment bolts to pressure plate on the live independent clutch are not worn to service limits, bent or warped out of shape. Try this with your personal safety in mind as you adjust the clutches. Let us know how it works out for you. :)
