Does UDT fluid seal leaks?

The pivot on my left front axle developed a leak that looked really bad on the garage floor. I filled the front axle back up with some Super UDT fluid. It took perhaps a pint. After waiting for the required 10 minutes, and cleaning off some dirt that was stuck to the pivot, I cycled the steering wheel several times. I noted a very slight leak so I used the B3030 to fill up my pickup with wood chips. It took about 30 minutes.

I returned the tractor to the garage. I noted again, a very slight leak was still present.

Two days later however, the leak appears to have stopped. I was expecting another puddle of fluid on the garage floor, but it hasn't gotten any worse than it
was when I last parked it.

Is it possible that the super UDT fluid has some kind of self-sealing capabilities or is it just that I may have left the front tires in a position that seals the leak when the tractor isn't moving.

Personally, no, YMMV! I think you have been lucky and it may well return.

what did you have in it before? 80w90? Gear oil?

Here is the simple truth.......synthetics will get by a WORN seal, simply because the molecules are smaller than the typical non synthetic oil!!!

Old myth - synthetics make seals go bad.....NOT true - howeeeeever......they will leak around a lot easier than the typical gear oil, this is simple physics, smaller particles will move past places that larger particles cannot.

And yes - there are modifiers in low viscosity oil that help seals "fix" themselves ....pretty impressive little buggers aren't they?:p

THANKS!
I wasn't looking forward to having to get it repaired.
I do recognize that I am behind though on periodic maintenance.

With a 1:7 mix with what ever was in there, if it has truly sealed your leak, you're on a winner, better buy a lottery ticket while you're at it!

Maybe it broke up some goo that was causing the leak. Or vent was plugged and opening it and removing case pressure slowed your leak.
