Transmission / hydraulic fluid change!

New to me L245DT and planning to change out all the fluids - prior maintainence did not appear to be high priority for owner.

Is it necessary to purge all the hydraulic lines of fluid and if so does anyone have a procedure to bleed air out after the change. I have a 1200 FEL and the basic 3 point lift in rear. the manual I have doesn't seem to address this issue.

No need to worry about purging hydraulic lines they will do it on there own on startup and first use.

thanks for the quick reply although not the answer I was looking for! Now I have no excuse not to do the change out. guess I'll be buying 6 gallons of hydraulic fluid this week.

Big R has Universal Hydraulic Fluid for very cheap or if you want upgraded fluid go with Mystik JT5, it has the same specs as Kubota UDT and works really well.

If your going to be using the tractor for snow removal I would go with the JT-5 as it flows exceptionally well in the cold.

On the L245DT, is there just the one drain plug for the transmission and hydraulic fluid? Draining now and don't seem to be getting anywhere near 24 qts. The manual I have shows a page headed "transmission lubrication" and shows plugs at rt and left rear wheel gear assemblies. Should those be drained at the same time?

PS - broke my heart to see how clean the hydraulic fluid was coming out! But I really want to clean the filter. The cap looks undisturbed as though it has never been removed.

Just completed my first 50 hour Oil, Trans/Hydro and Front end services. Followed the manual and the great videos provided by brandotown on YouTube. He did a tremendous 3 part on each service. Videos are "dead-on" for what to expect. Took approx. 3-4 hours from start to finish. Purchased all 3 filters from dealer and oils from Farm and Home. Total for parts was around $220 dollars...give or take.

If it's really that clean just reuse it after you change filters!
Hydraulic fluid will look bad when it is!

There is likely a drain plug on both of the outer final drive housings. The L245 is a very old model, it probably needs changing...

There's 4 plugs to pull. The main that you found, one where the front driveline housing hangs down, and one on each final drive on the rear end.

I finally did find all four - the manual actually does point to them, just not very clearly in the diagram. Also, if you do these out of sequence (as I did) you will get significant flow when you pull the filter.

All refilled now with just under 6 gal. of jt-5 fluid. Will continue to check level after use for a while in case any topping off is required.
