I'm a little suspicious since the hour meter quit working during the time the machine was in the shop for annual maintenance. 798 hours and it's stuck there. I have a couple of questions . . .
(1) is the hour meter supposed to run the whole time the switch is on or does it only run when there is oil pressure (engine actually running)?
(2) how do I trace the electrical wiring? Color, fusing, etc?

Thank you

If the hourmeter is connected to the oil pressure switch, then hours IS actual running engine hours.
If it's tied to the main switch, it'd be 'key on' time , which really is idiotic to do.

Each mower seems to be a bit different. Mine is not a Kubota but is wired to the electric clutch/PTO switch. It can have endless hours of running and only turns on when the blades are engaged. See if you can locate the wiring diagram or trace the wiring to its source.

I get pretty frustrated with shops that just want to yank the whole instrument module and replace it. Only one thing is off kilter and that is the hour meter - it displays, just doesn’t run. I suspect it’s a loose wire or something that got knocked off a sending unit when it was in for maintenance. Very frustrating when wiring diagrams seem to be so hard to come by.
