We actually went from wood stove to pellet stove old house then to Hydronic in new house.

And price wise, our whole winter heating is about 1/2 of firewood and pellets and none of the work.
This has been our cheapest year so for for heating, we are at about $600 and that's heating 2850SF of house to 76 and 1080SF of garage to 60 all the time.
That's impressive.

Even for a fraction of the square footage (1,400), I heat downstairs with pellets to 76 which drifts upstairs to 66 or so.

At ~$400+/ton now, I'm already $1,200+ in for pellet-heat this season.

I'm still happy with it compared to what I used to pay for fuel oil while burning wood.

Although small, the house is older and not nearly as tight as new construction would be.

We've made many energy-saving improvements over the years.

I wished I made more money, quicker, earlier in life so I could have enjoyed it. Although, if I had extra money when I was younger.... I doubt I would have made to be this old.
When I was a young man, my then 62 year old boss told me youth is wasted on the young. I didn’t fully understand then. Now that I’m older, I understand more than I would prefer.

Yep,
New house is all hydronic heated.
And it's also our hot water
It's sweet!

We now just drop the dead standing and send them off to a friend to be milled into lumber.
The dead fall and dead standing that don't work for lumber, We give to a neighbor that cuts it up into firewood and gives it away to those in need.

Very impressive figures. Our furnace is propane and it heats a 2500 sqft two-story house. The house was built in the 70's and while we've done updates, it's still plenty leaky around doors and attic. We're working to get those areas fixed up next, but a month ago I finally was able to get a liner down the chimney and hook up an insert. I'm probably still considered young by many here as I just turned 38 so the "chore" of splitting wood to help supplement the furnace is an ok chore for me. As my boy grows up it'll be something he can do, as I did with my dad. My brother and I split the cost of a splitter two years ago, it's been such a great time saver. For the next house, we will definitely look into Hydronic if we're building from scratch like I'd like to. Propane around us is in the mid $3.00 a gallon, I spent almost $900 in propane for January alone.

Things I'd wish I'd done sooner... I had a helluva lot of fun in my 20's and early 30's but man I wish I settled down the first time my now wife and I dated. Would probably have kids closing in on 10 years old versus a 2 & a half year old, and one in the oven. I'm not as energetic as I once was!!

I wish I would have bought my L3800 sooner, rather than waste the time and money on the old JD.
Is it wrong to say I wish I had left my ex sooner? Either way, I wish I had…

I don't think there's anything pathetic about it. I think it's awesome that you're getting so much enjoyment out of the splitter and saw. (y) I completely understand the feeling that comes from using good tools, and enjoying the tool for what it is as much as what it does.

By the way, I've never used a pro chainsaw. I have a couple of Stihl saws that I bought in 2011 but they're certainly not the pro models. Now that I have a more capable truck, I can venture further afield in search of firewood this year. There's a $10 permit required but lots of public land where you're allowed to cut down dead standing stuff. Maybe a better saw will be in my future later this year.
I have a NIB Husqvarna 372oe I’ll send ya! Bought a pair from Malaysia, built for the non EPA countries. Been using the other for firewood.

I don't know much about Husky's, but the 372XP were supposed to be one of the "really good" ones?
One of the best saws they made. Has a cult like following. The newer xtorq, not so much. It’s still a good saw, just not an OE. I had one of them too. Notice the decomp on top of cylinder vs side on OE. Also the sticker says xtorq.
IMG_2008.jpeg

The xtorq is a factory high top where the OE is a low top. You can swap intake, filter and cover to make the OE high top.
