I have a bx2230 with 26 by 12 by 12 turf tires in rear and 18 by 8.50 by 8 in the front. the front wheels are 10 inch. i would to put 12 inch in the front with the same size tires that are on there now. is that possible. without screwing up the 4 wheel drive. thanks..

You need to verify the diameter of the tires you want to use to replace the tires you have now. From what I’ve read all tires are not the same diameter, even if they are stated to be the same size.

My son-in-law has a BX 23S and the front wheels from my BX 2200 would not fit because the wheels on his BX 23S are apparently a larger diameter. Front axle is different and requires a larger diameter wheel apparently. Tire size is the same.

It’s all about making sure that the relationship between diameters on the front and the back remains the same after you make a tire change.

Since you are keeping the original rear tires, you don’t want the front tires to be too much different than original. The change of a few percent would probably be OK.

hmm,... 18 by 8.50 by 8 in the front. the front wheels are 10 inch.

I thought 'by 8' meant an 8 inch rim, so HOW could them be mounted on a 10 inch rim ?

I measured again the front wheels are 9 inches, not 10, my mistake. i would like to put 12 rims with whatever size turf tire will work and not screw up the 4 wheel drive. is this idea possible.

My guess is your front wheels are probably the same as on my BX 2200, which would make them 8 inch. Following is a page from the parts list for the BX 2200 showing wheel size.

What is the motivation for wanting to change the size of the front wheel? The only way that could happen satisfactorily is if you find a tire to fit that larger wheel, that’s the same size in diameter as the standard tires you have now. A wider tire might add additional stresses to the front axle so that’s something to consider as well.

If I wanted a larger diameter wheel and also wanted to be sure that the diameter of the tire was correct, I’d put the 10 inch wheels/tires off of a BX23s on the tractor. Or probably any 10 inch wheel off of any BX model. This would be after determining that the bolt pattern was the same. I imagine it is, but I don’t know.

Got curious. Found the following. My guess it may be correct. If I remember, I will check my BX 2200 today and report back if it is 5.5 inches or not.

Edit: ignore the text between this point and the edit below…

“Kubota BX series tractors are generally known to have the 4x100mm front wheel bolt pattern, but there are exceptions. Specifically, the early models in the BX series, such as the BX1500, BX1800, BX1830, and BX2200, have a different front wheel bolt pattern.

Kubota BX Models with Different Front Wheel Bolt Patterns:

1. BX1500: 5 x 139.7mm (5.5 inches)

2. BX1800: 5 x 139.7mm (5.5 inches)

3. BX1830: 5 x 139.7mm (5.5 inches)

4. BX2200: 5 x 139.7mm (5.5 inches) [BX22 AS WELL ?]

Most other models, particularly the newer ones, typically use the 4x100mm bolt pattern.”

Edit: Oh well, so much for trusting the Internet. The bolt circle on my BX2200 front wheels is 4 inches, which would be the same roughly as 100 mm. My measurement was with a tape measure so it could certainly be that the true measurement is 100 mm. But definitely not 5.5 inches!

When I changed my tires to R4’s that is not an option on the 1880, from my current turf tires, just had to insure the ratio is the same from front to back. Got them for winter duty. Put my turfs back on for summer grass cutting. Check with your dealer for going larger.
