A Thread-Pitch Gauge is handy to have in your toolbox.

How accurate is it all? I know that I often substitute a 14mm wrench for a 9/16 and an 11mm for a 7/16” and a 10mm does not work well in lieu of a 3/8.
Those are just 3 ‘mistakes’ I notice.

*Corrected*?

It's for reference is all. SAE is not Metric and vise/versa. I can't put a number to how many "what size" questions I've seen.

Unfortunately it does nothing to tell you what pitch the threads are.
Good thing to mention. Added to my OP. Thanks for the mention.

If you're rummaging your nuts and bolts, start the by hand to avoid thread damage.

Trial and error.
