Normally Kubota threads on sensors will be BSPT, but part doesn't look stock?
Also look in the top of the head for ports, that will give you a better sending unit location.

Do you know what the engine is out of?

engine (older D1105) is out of a Carrier reefer unit on a refigerated semi trailer. it is in my boat now so the top (red) part is marine tstat outlet. Where the pipe plug is should be stock. Whether Kubota or Carrier. From what I understand, BSPT and NPT are almost the same but not. Hard to tell them apart.

Also, I need to source a temp guage sender. I have a gauge just need a sender, the kind the Ohms change with the temperature. I can calibrate that to my gauge, but need a sender. No idea where to start, which is why I asked about the thread type.

Thank U

Yes being a carrier that would explain the odd parts.
Well carrier used both both BSPT and NPT.
It's either 1/8 or 1/4 hard to tell by the photo.
Pull the pipe plug and take it to a store like Home Depot and see if it will thread into a NPT fitting, more than 2 threads.
If it won't then the threads are BSPT.
You can get temp sending units off ebay or Amazon.
If you need help finding one, just tell me what the thread end up being.

ok thanks. here's a pic. btw, I ordered an autometer one wire thermister sender, 1/8 NPT from amazon, and found a 3/8 BPST - 1/8 NPT bushing online if thats what it is. The measurement I think matches 3/8... either one...

I recently changed out the temp gauge and sender in my RTV900.
The replacement was 1/8 NPT
I just ran a 1/8 NPT tap in the hole for the sender.
You can capture the chips by putting a glob of grease on the tap.
No issues no leaks.

Your measurement does match 3/8 NPT. I would try a known NOT plug or bushing to see how far it will screw inton the housing first. If your sending unit is 1/8npt I would try to get a bushing that places it as far into the thermostat housing as possible without interfering with the thermostat. That will give you the best possible reading of coolant temp

Did the same on my Land Cruiser. Knew the correct thread was 1/8 BSPT but didn't want to wait on ordering an adapter for the sending unit I had on hand (1/8 NPT).

So..... just tapped it NPT.

Worked fine, moved on to the next project.

Looking closer at your picture, I have a feeling your going to run into clearance issues with you water manifold (red part).
I would be looking at the top of the head for another port.

Im not there now but I ordered a bushing and a 1/8npt (slender, short) sender. Hopefully it clears or else you right... have to come up with something else... will post back when I try to fit that into the engine... thanks for all the advice

re: I need to source a temp guage sender. I have a gauge just need a sender, the kind the Ohms change with the temperature. I can calibrate that to my gauge, but need a sender.

you need a sensor that was made FOR your gauge ! Typically 'one wire' sensor will be a 'thermistor' but they have to 'match' the gauge. They are nonlinear temperature sensors, with a known resistance at a known temperature as well as a calibrated 'curve' ( change of resistance vs temperature ).
you can't just buy one 'off the shelf' and expect it to work perfectly with your gauge. close isn't good enough', it could 'work fine' except what is reported as 180* is actually 225* and you burn up your $$$$ engine.

Hold on a sec.... this might be a big "duh!"... is this a coolant sender port and sender? Never even noticed this before... was focussed at the front for this. Yes Im probably pretty dumb... 🤷‍♂️
Yep that would be it!
And it's a much better location for the sensor to get an accurate reading.
The sensor in there might or might not work.
Some had just over heat sensors and others had normal gauge sensors.
