I have a L2350. The tachometer will show correct rpm until about 2000, then starts acting erratically and jumps up to about 3000 rpm. I can down power the tractor and the tach will eventually calm down. Any help would be appreciated. BTW I have replaced the tach cable.

Replace the meter. Personally I would just live with it.

you can replace it, its about $200 with shipping. Problem is, your hourmeter is part of the tach so the hour meter will then show zero hours-which, if I were a seller, would generate some questions. Or, leave the old one in it and give the buyer the option to buy the tractor as-is and knock $100 off to help pay for the new tach. Option #3, pull the tach assembly out, and have it fixed by someone-or perhaps yourself if you're handy. I've not had one apart that I can remember so I have no guidance with that.

curious,,, what drives the 'input' side of the tach cable ?
Remove the tach, bench test with drill and squared pin, see if it gets erratic .
If it doesn't then it's NOT the tach and you've save $200 .

Now reinstall and use drill as the 'input' side. test it. might need a helper....
If it's 100% fine THEN whatever drives the cable has to be the problem.
