T M G products. Does anyone have experience with them.

I am looking at their ditch bank flail mowers. I know they are a cheaper brand and not up to woods or landpride quality. But am wondering if they are junk, or just a lighter duty machine. No heavy work, just heavy grass on road edges, and pruning my woods roads back in the 90" degree position. Nothing over 1/4 inch diameter and more like 1/8 for stems being cut.

There are a lot of forces on the various components of a ditch bank flail mower, and the chances that a Chinese knock off consortium such as TMG gets it right is basically zero. For example, I bet the attachment point for the cylinder that rotates the cutting head will flail in short order. Take a look at a quality flail and you'll see that the steel is thicker, and it's reinforced to handle the forces exerted on the mounting point. In addition, the box/cowling/shield or whatever you want to call it is reinforced on the better models.

TMG is another VEVOR vendor variant selling knock off products of quality implements designed by companies who actually spend money on testing and development. Would you have a positive ownership experience spending 50% of what you'll pay for a BEFCO, Del Morino, Land Pride or similar? Only you will be able to answer that question.

I have a Del Morino ditch bank flail and the $5k I paid for it was soon forgotten. I use it more often than the other two rotary cutters and it's even made me money on two jobs and no doubt will make me more money this summer. Everything on that Del Morino is well engineered and well made, and the only issues I've had over the past three seasons have been down to abuse on my part i.e. running over large heavy objects hidden in tall grass or weeds. I've had to repair the front guards twice now, but I made a modification to the guard system so that I can abuse the flail in the future without having to spend time fixing stuff.

I completely understand the cost vs. performance vs. longevity decision matrix process and it's everywhere in life. Sometimes I think about buying a cheaper variant with the idea that I can address the shortcomings if necessary. Had I bought a Chinesium flail I would for sure be looking at ways to reinforce the mounting points that are subjected to considerable stesses.

I just ordered the 60 inch Mechmaxx ditch bank mower that's probably about the same. Was cheap and only need it a couple times a year so I took a chance. Ordered their stump grinder 2 weeks ago and it's not bad. I figure if it lasts a year under warranty, it should be good for a couple years. Will have it next week hopefully. Biggest issue I saw on videos that I watched was the pto shaft can hit the frame on some tractors when fully offset (seemed to be 3 point arm length related) . It's 650 pounds and looks to be well made but only is good for up to 1 1/2 diameter bushes unlike the DelMarino I looked at that was good for 2 inches but 3x the price. Only comes with hammers.

It looks like a few companies sell pretty much the same ones. Mine will only cut tall grass and twigs, so I think it would probably survive. Plus one afternoon a year would probably do all I need to do.

There's a lot of force on that mounting point and it's just not engineered well. Compare the Del Morino bottom to the MechMaxx top.

My tractor is a little over 5000 pounds with filled tires, cab, and loader. Many run the 65 inch on the 35 hp Kioti version that's the same weight as mine without problems. The lighter DelMarino offset flails for 25 hp machines are about identical weight. I'm not worried about welds as it won’t see much use plus I have a big welder and cnc plasma table for mods. $2400 versus $6800 was the decision maker for me. Actually I find the Chinese respond to warranty claims quickly and they are made side by side on the same lines as some of the nane brand assembled in the USA products made with offshore parts.

I get it. It's hard to justify spending a lot of money on something that isn't used much, and that cost difference is substantial. After a few more jobs this summer the Del Morino will have brought in more money than was paid out for it, but it's going to take a lot more summers before I can say the same for the RC3712.

I don't buy an implement with the idea that I need to do work in order to pay it off, but if that's an option then I feel even better about the investment. I know people who pay $1,500 or more for snow removal each winter. I've never paid for snow removal, but it didn't take more than a few winters before I was at the break even point based on the cost of the front blade and blower. But it's the convenience and independance of doing one's own snow removal that appeals to me more than the need to "pay off" equipment in my head. The latter is just icing on the cake.

I look forward to hearing all about your flail and how it works for you. I hadn't realized that your tractor was such a beast, but it sounds like you're more than prepared to run the flail, and to make any needed repairs.
