Skid shoes

I have a BX 2370 with a TG2754 snow blade. I clear a good amount of snow each year. Problem is that I go through 2 sets of skid shoes every winter. I think they should be made a little thicker.
I read here a while ago, someone said they don't use them. Said they make a good door stop.
Does anyone have an opinion on not using them? Or a solution?

I have a snow blade and use my skid shoes, but the problem I have is my driveway is gravel and before it freezes NOTHING will keep that blade from sinking into the gravel and tearing up the driveway. When it is frozen, you could stand the blade on ice picks and it will not dig in. It's quite a learning curve to plow gravel driveways. On the other hand, if your drive is paved, you can toss those skid shoes aside, you'll get a cleaner plow job.

On the other hand the skid shoes could save wear on your bucket. They're cheaper to replace than the bucket, I suspect. It may also be possible to weld new base plates onto them as they wear out.

I am going to try it without them. My only concern is how fast the scraper bar will wear.

OK my 2 cents,, when you plow snow do you put your blade in the float mode? If not try it, if you are keeping constant down pressure on the side yes they will grind away very quickly.
