I came across what I think is a good deal. A LR1686, 42" pallet forks, and a 3point hitch receiver with ball for $1100. Rake looks brand new. I have an immediate use for the rake as we're finishing up construction on a new home and we have a lot of organic debris to clean up for yard prep, etc.

I already have a box blade and a land plane. For those of you that already have a land plane, do you find much use for your rake? We have about 10 acres we maintain. Mostly field (which I mow twice a year) and a lot of gravel driveway.

Bonus question: I see some online literature for a "flip down blade" for the LR1686, but I can't see it for sale anywhere. Anyone used this add on?

After a quick search, it appears that just the rake, new, is about $1,800, so it sounds like a pretty decent deal.

Hell, if you don't really like it, you could probably sell it and break even.

It sounds like a rake would be good for your uses.

I don't know about that model, but some rakes and rear blades have the same frame. I think I'd check to see if you can add a rear blade to that model. Rear blades can be very useful as well.

buy it , use it, resell next year when it's just taking up space ?
around here guys would by a 2wd TLB, dig their own house foundations and septic, then next spring resell the TLB.

They are good at 'running the fence lines' that have bushes and trees along them.

I need to add gauge wheels to mine to prevent digging out large clumps of grass in soft wet soil. I use mine mainly for cleaning up fallen dead branches after winter and after removing trees.

I have a 7'er on my 7o30 Case right now. Using it to clean old hay and some net wrapping from a storage area. You can adjust the top link to get different jobs done. I have it extended to get the teeth to catch and dig pretty good. I shorten it to drag over an area to spread cow pies I need disintegrated.

I have a 6'er at the house for work there. I don't mind storing an implement!

Trivia..... In that at one time I built a homemade, quite sturdy, quite aggressive, 3 row de-thatcher, pine straw 3pt rake.. It worked well for a variety of things...

However, if I could have found a good buy on a landscape rake I would have bought it in a second.. It seems a good ...inbetween... tool from a thatch rake and landplain, box blade...

My 5 cents of opinion..

We have a landplane, box blade, back blade and landscape rake. I think the rake gets more use than anything else. If you can get SSQA pallet forks, 3 point receiver, and the landscape rake in nice condition for $1,100 it's a good purchase. You can never have too many attachments, even it they are only used on occasion.

I purchased a Howse 7" landscape rake after hurricane Katrina it worked great for gathering debris getting it close to the fire, then turning the tines around and pushing and lifting into the fire. I also have the guide wheels never use them; the ground needs to be very level.

Anyone used for raking / windrowing cut grass and leaves? I’ve been thinking about that to gather grass and leaves and scoop with bucket to take to compost pile. How effective is it for leaves vs blowing to a pile?
