When talking engine blocks, is a D902 a D902? For example, could I put one from a generator or a mower in my rtv?

Thanks,
Matt

Not necessarily. Different applications may require changes to the mounting points, orientation of external components like air intake, pulleys, etc. Same basic engine with mods for specific uses. I think there are subtypes that identify factory versions of these motors.

That's a good point. I need to dig into this a little more, I just thought about the hydraulic pump. I can't imagine a light tower having a spot for one to bolt up. A guy 6 hours away from me has a couple for cheap, but that doesn't help me if it's not going to work...

For generators the governor is different from a regular engine. It is set to one RPM (probably 1800) and there is no other engine speed. You may be able to change it but you can’t just use the engine as is.

There is no difference in the blocks or heads.
The difference is in the governor setup and the speed control.

for the most part the block and head are the same

governors are different for different applications, RTV's are 3600 RPM, generators and pumps and excavators are different (1800, 2200, etc). Idle RPM can be different as well.

intake and exhaust manifolds are supposedly all the same, BUT I've seen some that were different.

Front dress can be different so don't throw away your RTV brackets and pulleys

basically you'll want to try to use as much RTV stuff as you can.

A d902 can have a lot of different variations, they're not all "the same". Same for most Kubota engines, many variations of each model V3307 V3800 etc. A V3307 CR is different than a V3307-t....thus again it's wise to retain as much of the original stuff as possible when swapping things around.
