I have a D905 that I'm wrapping up installing into a BX. It originally was used in a light tower and ran at a fixed rpm (1800). The donor engine used to have the 2 fork governor arm, but I moved the governor from the junk engine over. So I've been fiddling with the idle apparatus trying to get idle rpm right.

Is there some sort of information, official or otherwise to set the idle apparatus? Would the dealer be able to do this?

Do you have the WSM?
It might be in there?
What exact BX are you putting it in?
I ask because a BX2670 (in your profile) takes a D1005.
Knowing the right original engine model might help with the settings.

I think I may have found the issue. From reading this thread : https://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/threads/d905-governor.40616/

I've swapped the speed control plate, both springs, and the governor assembly. I should've known the governor weights were different between the tractor engine and the bg fixed rpm engine. I need to swap over the governor shaft.

I came to this realization trying to tune the engine following the swap. I was able to have the engine idle around where it's supposed to with no throttle (1400ish rpms). However, after a certain point beyond 2200ish rpms, I lose the ability to throttle down no matter where I've set the torque limiter or gear cover idle screw. This makes sense, because the only thing removing fuel (i.e. pulling the injection pump rack to the stop position) is the governor. I guess the governor weights weigh more on the bg models, preventing the governor arm from moving as far as it would need to for this application, under the same rpm conditions.
