BTW before the toes surgeries, I was moving snow with the FEL on my BX23S. I did install the heavy duty bar though.....

We're supposed to get serious (for us) snow Thursday night and Friday here in west Tennessee. My snow equipment consists of hoe, round point shovel, and leaf blower. I just remembered my 40v powerhead is on the pole saw at the farm, so I'll have to rely on the 2stroke, which hasn't been used in a couple of years. Better make sure I have gas mixed. I only have 100' suburban driveway.

Skeets - - I've only used the FEL on my BX a time or two.

Late snow after blower came off. Driveway wasn't frozen and snow was wet/heavy.

Didn't go very well.

I have used my FEL for snow, I make sure it is tilted up slightly so it will not bite into any gravel. Depending on the situation I found activating the float function works pretty good.

N.Y,
I tried some of those skid feet first but a bucket is rigid and just was a pain to use. Picked up a quick attach plow with big skids that has enough play to follow my dirt and that's much better plus it doesn't pack full like a bucket in certain conditions.

@skeets do yourself a favor and on a warmer stretch, prior to spring, move the snowbanks full of gravel back onto the driveway and spread it out. Your neighbors will think your nuts, but trust me, it's much easier than cleaning up thousands of stones in your yard come spring.

That's what I tried. Bucket is still rigid to tractor in soft spots. Didn't work good for me. If the ground is frozen hard they will stay on top though.
Those things probably wouldn't have done me any good but I think they have their place.

Like I said it was early spring and snow was REAL heavy. Seems like it was close to a foot besides.

I actually did more damage with spinning the tires w/ chains on.

Dug up my stone driveway big time, especially out on the apron to the road where there was a bunch of salt, etc......

Several years ago my coworker’s husband had shoulder surgery.

We got a decent snow while he was laid up.

He had a SSQA blade on his BX23S for snow.

The tractor was new. The only person he would let run it was me.

Those blades are very handy.👍

I plow using an L series and a 72" ssqa plow. This winter is my first time plowing with it and sure I definitely tore up the driveway more than I would like. To be fair...the weather has played a role. We don't get the deep freezes like we used to and so the drive way takes way too long to freeze and harden up. Last week it turned into soup.

But yeah plowing with an FEL takes skill but it's fun. I thought using float was gonna work...nope. What I end up doing is using the float to drop the plow down and then back out of float and lift a little that way it just barely touches and the weight of the loader and plow is on the front end of the tractor giving me better traction. It's surprisingly been working great for me.

Sometimes I can curl the plow so it's less aggressive and the plow rides on the pads, this has helped over the lawn and not tearing up the drive way but as a consequence it packs the snow under it and makes it slick so I try to find a balance.

I think overall I preferred plowing with my side by side. However the giant snow piles I made in my drive way and pushing it all at once with the tractor is something the side by side wouldn't even attempt lol. The tractor doesn't even sweat. Frozen snow banks? No problem with the tractor. The side by side stops it dead in its tracks. It takes me a little longer with the tractor but honestly not much, maybe 30 minutes more on average.

It's a heck of a lot of fun though. Open station for me but I don't mind...I'm inside a lot as it is. It's a nice change for me. Fresh air is nice and sometimes that crisp cold air is good relaxing especially when it's beautiful!

Happy plowing!

I use a bucket for removing snow, and it seems logical to me to have the bucket flat on the ground, then just roll the tip of the bucket up just a bit. This prevents the bucket digging in and the tip can be feathered higher or lower as needed.

Skeets, you know it but I will say it again. You get good at something when you know the procedure and practice it correctly, and over time you become excellent.

We've heard the saying, "Practice makes perfect", but that is not necessarily true, "Perfect practice makes perfect". You practice something using wrong information or technique and you get real good at doing it wrong!!
