My rear PTO cable broke the other day and my PTO remained engaged. I ordered and replaced the cable, but no matter what position I put the lever, the PTO stays engaged. If I push in the clutch, PTO stops, but as soon as I let out the clutch, PTO is engaged again. There doesn’t seem to be much to adjust so, is my PTO damaged?

Try to manually move the lever where the cable attaches to the transmission (item# 4 in the attached image). If that works, the shift cable/mechanism will require further adjustment. If that doesn't work, there are internal issues....

Well I know that item 4 moves forward and rearward with the shift lever, which leads me to believe that shift fork is broken. That whole assembly is behind the transmission fluid filter assembly and a pain to access, ugh. I'll research how to access. Thank you.

One more question, is it harmful to the tractor to leave the PTO engaged while I'm doing bucket work or box blade work? I don't want to make a repair more expensive than it has to be.

Thanks.

Under normal operating conditions, it won't hurt anything. Since something is up with yours, it's unknown what continued use will do to it. I'd make sure nothing is connected to the PTO before going about your loader work.

Can someone confirm which 'internal clip' causes this issue? My guess is number 30 in this diagram. I ordered a WSM today and want to make sure I'm following the correct procedure to split the tractor when it arrives. Thanks!

Can you remove the #4 part and make sure that the #5 part is rotating? I would suspect that the pin may have sheared or something. I assume it was fine before the cable broke?

You may still have to get inside since a sheared pin and broken cable would be the results of a seized #5 .

The shift 'fork' should slide clutch half 070 forward and aft. Parts 030 and 035 stop clutch half 020 from sliding too far aft, disengaging the two. I don't know what damage might be done if the clutch slid too far back.

Sadly, both parts rotate with movement of the lever and cable. :( I was seriously hoping I could just replace the spring pin!
