I live in southern Maine and need recommendations if it’s worth replacing the cam on my
Kubota TG1860G
Can I do it myself?
Anyone got videos of the job?
And recommendations for mechanics in my area!

First talk to @D2Cat as if i remember right he had a work around to the obsolete / discontinued cam issue.

Second get the WSM, that will give you all the information on replacing the cam.

Any advice on replacing the cam on this tractor ?Kubota TG1860G
Have you checked with Kubota for the cam? It may not be available from them, however you can get the number off of the engine and take it to a Kawasaki dealer and get it crossed over to Kawasaki's number.

If you have any mechanical aptitude I'd say you will be fine getting into that engine. It's been 8 years since I messed with one. Make sure you locate all necessary parts before committing to a rebuild. Probably need the cam, push rods, oil pump.

Thank you for the quick reply!
I’ll see if I can find those parts.

The cams were made with some kind of hard plastic material and after so long the gears teeth broke off the metal housing. The new ones are all metal.

Here's some pictures. The teeth also were peeled off of the oil pump. Had a couple of push rods that were bent.
