My dad has a broken steering sector shaft on his l235 1980s model l235 kubota tractor. I found the shafts but would rather replace the whole box. Cheap ones on ebay and Amazon say they fit l 175,l 185,and l245 but don't specifically list the l 235. My question is does the L 235 have a different steering box than the rest of the models? Or will the after market boxes fit the l 235 tractor.

You don’t say if it is 2WD or 4WD so I assumed the 2WD version and looked at Messicks parts site
It appears that the assembly is discontinued and was only for the L235

Did you look at Messicks to see? There are manual and power steering and bot fit a few other models (according to my 5 minutes of research)

Get the parts you need and fix the one you have.
