Is it possible to post videos?

I would like to post a video every now and then, very short and compressed to smaller size than a typical picture (I am well aware of server disk space).

I avoid to use youtube, so posting it there and supplying a link here is not an option.

The only way I found is encapsulating the video in an archive and attaching it to the post. But this requires downloading and opening the archive, not very practical.

Is there a better way to do this?

Kind regards,
Hugo

Well, google is pretty much the same as youtube, I simply do not like their business model and hence avoid them, same as facebook, twitter etc. etc.

Buy a cheap used laptop and make sure that any and all personal information never goes on it. Use a firewall to isolate it further. Use a new gmail email address that is only used on it.

I know there are other video / picture hosting services out there. But the problem is that one day the links may break or the videos could disappear. Even on youtube, nothing is forever.

On OrangeTractorTalks the video would stay, or lets say it would die together with the post, so it would not matter anyway (apart from this brilliant website gone, of course :giggle: )

Maybe the administrators could consider allowing video files for attachments, the size is limited already as I could see.

There may be another reason why this is not possible that I am not aware of with my limited knowledge of internet software.

I would like to add that this is not essential but rather nice to have.

They update the forum software that can change their data storage. I’d also say that probably each post/topic has a useful age, so it doesn’t matter if it works forever.

They‘d also need to store all of the files which isn‘t free, back gem up, and write code to launch or display them.

IF the site itself hosts the pics/vids/ etc, at least the post and supportive data will exist or die together.

I did a rather lengthy informational post with a bunch of pictures on a rimfire site years ago. At that time, the site required pictures posted to be hosted at a third party site. I used Photobucket. Time passed and the pictures vanished from my posts. Just recently I discovered I could still edit the original 2007 post and add the pictures back into it.

Google Sucks.
Microsoft sucks.
Apple sucks.
Ford sucks.
GM Sucks.
Dodge/Ram or whoever owns them this week sucks.
BoA sucks.
You name any big XYZ company/corporation, they suck too.

All feel the need to interject politics rather then just sell product or service, but since we all choose not to live under a rock we have deal with it one way or the other. All we can do is minimize (not eliminate) our exposure and separate business from personal.

I had a customer type out a long diatribe against me and PayPal once when that's all we accepted for payment. But, he was sending it from a "free" Gmail account. I asked him if Google was any better and how he felt about them...he never responded 😁😁😁😁😁

I'm pretty sure the reason we don't allow direct posting of videos is copyright issues.
If you host on a site like Youtube or others they deal with copyright issues.
