Hello,
I have a Land Pride FD2560, 3 spindle Grooming Mower with a Eurocardan Drive shaft. The mower was bought new in 2006. I would like to remove the drive shaft covers to do some preventative maintenance. Mostly cleaning out the gunk which has accumulated over the years.
I have had no luck finding any help in the owner's manual or online for this particular drive shaft.

Any suggestions before I take the assembly to a dealer?

Thanks,
John

Maple Leaf Farmer,
Thanks for your response.

I did look at that video but could not see exactly what the mechanic was leveraging with the screwdriver. That is a critical part of the video needed. So it wasn't clear to me. All I was able to do was turn the plastic shaft a bit while holding the universal with my other hand. The video may show the way to remove the collar on my drive shaft, but I am not positive. The drive shaft ends for connecting the tractor and mower gear boxes are different.
On my, there is a round collar you rotate first in order to slide the drive shaft onto the splines of the tractor or mower gear box.

I did watch several videos put out by Land Pride, but these are recent, and the drive shaft look different. My mower is almost 20 years old. I think Land Pride moved on from the Eurcodan brand. The only repairs I have made over the years, have been replacing the pneumatic tires, belt repalcement, blade sharpening and of course greasing several times a season. So, I guess that's not bad at all for the mower or my maintenance skill.

Anyway, I cleaned up most of the muck within the shield, greased both universals and connected the mower to the tractor. The next time I grease the drive shaft; I can recheck the video you suggested.

Thanks Again,
John

Hit it with some de-greaser/cleaner and you will see in the slots some tabs. Often the tabs are white and shields is black so easy to easy but sometimes the tabs are black so makes it difficult to see. Getting up on a bench / clean with some good light and you will see in the slots very easily.

A slotted screw driver used in the slots to depress the tabs and it pulls apart. Like separating electrical connections etc...

the ring under the cover should look something like this. This is the tabs that can break off.

I would bet you a coffee that the tabs will break due to age and a new ring/retainer set will need to be purchased as well once disassembled. Will be no fault of yours just what seems to happen on 20yo covers.

to get your mind around how these shields/rings work hear is another design but same concept. Push the tab on the ring under the cover and pull apart.

Maple leaf Farmer:

Thanks for taking the time to write this detailed explanation of how to take my drive shaft apart. After reading that the collar would likely need to be replaced. I am content with my practice of simply greasing each of the universals and the accessible ends of the drive shaft and as the saying goes," leave sleeping dogs lie". Who can say, I may get another 10 - 15 years before the universal need work

I plan to copy your explanation and save a copy in my files.
Thanks Again,
John
