I was at our local Kubota dealership yesterday to buy filters and UDT to support my first B2301 400 hour service. The manual says 16 quarts (4 gallons) of UDT for the transmission (understanding that this is a shared oil with hydraulics) and 3.7 quarts for front axle, which is 19.7 quarts or 4.92 gallons. The service department told me I needed 16 quarts (4 gallons) for the transmission, another 19 quarts for hydraulics and 3.7 quarts for front axle, which is 38.7 quarts or 9.675 gallons. I was only planning to purchase 5 gallons of UDT for $130, but based upon their recommendation, I bought an extra 5 gallons. All the youtube videos I watch, they only mention the 4 gallons of UDT and 3.7 quarts...nothing is ever mentioned about the other 19 quarts the service department told me about and sold me on. Does anyone know or understand the additional 19 quarts they are talking about?

Well the service parts guy is, well lets just say lacking a few brain cells.
The transmission is the hydraulic oil, they are not separate or additionally added.

Total for the tractor including the front axle is less than 5 gallons.
Use the dipstick to set the oil level not an oil amount!

Thank you for the quick response...you confirmed what I thought and read in my service manual. Just needed that re-assurance that I wasn't missing something since I have not yet ever performed the 400 hour service.

Just so you know, your tractor will likely take less than the rated capacity. Bet 5 gallons is more than you'll need by a couple/few quarts.

Fill the HST until full on the dipstick. Start with 3+ gallons and check it. Don't dump 4 in it, as you'll end up taking some out.

My front axle took significantly less....maybe 75% or so. Same there. Don't dump a gallon in it right off.

You bet. I have a BX, but betting services are similar to your B.

The rated capacity issue comes up quite frequently…..guys dump x-gallons because that’s what the book says….then find them overfull on the dipstick.

Very easy to do. Good luck! 👍
