Try turning the steering side to side. Other than that, I would try what I normally do for cars. Clutch in, neutral, a little bit of throttle, or lower throttle, and a higher gear. Also, all combinations of those.

Fwiw, my HST was stiff at the start. Just a bit of throttle while pushing the range stick worked until it was broken in.

Thank you for your reply. We got it to work by taking out of 4wd and reversing then forward. The linkages appear to be out of alignment though which could have happened during transport.

On my similar L185 you must be completely stopped and take it out of gear. Then depress the clutch and shift from low to high. Since high is the down position of the lever, it is a little hard to push it down hard or far enough. I GENTLY push it down with my foot if it doesn’t really want to go, but I am never forcing it down very hard. If it doesn’t go I then let off the clutch and press it back down and try again.

One other thing may be that there is rust buildup on the shaft and tractor case where the lever enters the case. Spray it with a good penetrating oil and then shift it from low to high and back a few times. I do that every couple of years to avoid any rust buildup there.
